I Had To Work On The 4th

Added: Thursday, July 5th 2012 at 4:49pm by writeawaythenothing

I had to work on the 4th of July. Isn't that sad?

Of course there's work and then there's work ;)

My work was to fire up the company grill.

So I brought my family to "work" and gave it my best shot

Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time of food and fun

Of course then the real work began and most of us ended up here

I admit it... I could have a worse job.

How did your 4th turn out?

I am home alone right now. Wife in Texas for the week. I slept, ate my home made hummus. Boat loads of it. I ate too much. Slept some more. Then slept and slept and slept. Today was better. Got out of the house and went to Star Bucks and grocery store. Went to gym.Called my doctor about diabetic prescription  that he prescribed that is not good for my eye problem. Or so says my eye doctor. Went to hardware store. Went back to store to buy sour cream. Made some killer chili. I mean KILLER. It will kill you if you eat too much. Today is my clean out the frig day. That is the day I take all the old veggies out and make a giant salad. Keeps me from throwing out rotted veggies eventually. I did put some celery in the chili because I had to get rid of it and a whole stock is way too much in a salad. It sounds weird but it looses it's taste after cooking and all the hot stuff. Went back to Star Bucks for an evening treat and read. Mailed my dad a birthday card and sent him five bucks to buy a cup of coffee with. (he makes as much in retirement as I do working.) Fed cats and birds. Washed dishes. Ah, I shaved and showered, watering the lawn, and put twenty bucks in the tank. Called my son and begged for my lawn mower back. Checked on another son recouping from strep throat. (how you get strep in the middle of summer is beyond me.) Called my wife and flirted a little. I miss her. Ah going to do a load of laundry. Thinking about writing a blog before going to bed. I don't know. Looks like I'm writing a blog on your comment sight. Sorry. Today was a good day. I'm an exciting guy aren't I?

You do sound delightful and busy. :)

Wifey worked too, we had a mellow 4th and stayed cool!

Staying cool is getting more and more difficult around here

Wow!  Tough holiday for you, I see...even if you did have to work.  LOL

Independence day was just like most any other day here.  Son was off and took me grocery shopping, which was nice to have him along for a change.  I wasn't feeling that great, and it was nice to have him along to help.  We did go out for a nice lunch which was a great treat for me.  It wasn't fast food ordered off the value menu.

Another nice treat...I made steak fajitas for dinner.  One of our very most favorites, and really can't afford to make very often these days.  It was to celebrate the 4th, our 25th anniversary, and niece's 15th birthday.

So that was my big exciting holiday...lol!

Steak fajitas are a wonderful treat. Ours never have much actual steak in them so we can afford to make them more often. Sounds like you had a pretty nice day

We're all pretty big meat eaters here, and niece doesn't care for all the other trappings, but she sure does love the steak.  Even me, who can seldom eat more than about a half a normal size serving of anything....can snarf down a little bit of rare/med-rare steak!  Maybe if we could afford steak a couple times a week, I'd be able to gain some weight...lol

You're much more likely to pack on pounds with carbs than with protein. Unless you eat high fat meats it's almost impossible to gain weight from proteins

I know that.  But I can dream, can't I????????????LOL  I'm actually very Pro-Atkins or South Beach diets for those who need to lose weight.  I have a friend who weighed 320 lbs most of her adult life, lost 185 lbs on those diets in her 50's. .  I tried it once, because hubby was doing it to lose a few....unfortunately, I did, too.    I just love me some good, rarish steak.

"The naturally chubby are naturally drawn to carbs and the naturally thin are naturally drawn to proteins." That's what the trainers say at any rate.

Can't say that I've ever run into that information before, but it makes perfect sense to me.  I've always been a meat hound....even back when I ate a lot more than I do now.  I'd generally eat more of the meat than the carbs or veggies.  Still do the same, if I can manage to eat much at all.

I think at least some of my problem is genetic.  My paternal grandmother....I stongly resemble her and her sisters.....didn't eat much at all.  She always said she ate to live, not live to eat.   My paternal uncle would hardly eat...lived on coffee and cigarettes....My dad's baby sister barely eats either.  A couple years ago we traveled from Omaha back to Florida by car....we stopped several times and splurged by splitting a seafood platter...we couldn't even finish the seafood and never touched the side-dishes.

Dinner tonight?  I ate my fried pork chop.  Ate 2-3 bites of pasta.  And not even that much of the vegs....  I look and feel like a skeleton which I hate, and still cannot force myself to eat enough to try and get the weight back on.

Whenever you feel completely full and are ready to stop eating always take one more bite. That's one of the primary ways that overweight people get that way. They eat past the point when their body says enough.

I do try to keep eating, I just reach a certain point, and that's it.  I'm done.  But I will try to keep forcing myself to just take a couple more bites.  Thanks!

We 'worked' at family fun, and we were successful.

Fun post.

That's the best kind of work

Man, that's back-breakin' work, eh? {#wink.gif} Sounds like ya had fun...I enjoyed mine! Went tuh see some 'works at a nearby park. Didn't enjoy th' crowd, but it was worth it.

I'm glad the works were good enough to make it worth the crowd. I slept through the works

Wow....well, gotta get yer rest at th' sacrifice of...well....excitement of watchin' fireworks! Unless, sleep excites you...LOL

Sleep is a rare and wonderful thrill whenever I can manage to squeeze any of it in it's very exciting

Fair nuff! To each their own I suppose! Then again, I haven't lived long nuff tuh actually cherish sleep like you do, so I know what tuh look forward to!

Yeah, all of us here around the old folks home appreciate our sleep :p

I will have to ask fer yer advice in 20 more years on how to cherish sleep, LOL!

Uh yeah mmm hmmm twenty years sure yeah .... gotcha

Okay, maybe 10? Would that be more convienient? LOL

No no... twenty's fine, just fine

HA, okay, I'll get back to ya!

I'm having a hard time working up sympathy for your having to work on the 4th!  LOL!  Sounds like your job comes with some really good bennies.  Good for you!  Do you have openings?

Yes, we always have openings. If you're in West Memphis or Marion you can apply at our downtown Memphis location

Just joking, I'm self employed and across the state from West Memphis but it sounds like a great place to work!  I have enjoyed reading your blogs.  when I lived in Little Rock, we used to buy from a place in Memphis and made that trip once or twice a month.  I hated that long, boring trip.

I hate cleaning the ginormous Arkansas bugs off my van every time I make that long drive across Arkansas. I think it has bigger bugs than any state except maybe Louisiana

We are well blessed with bugs and my car is nothing but a bug-catcher.  Texas may have us beat when those stinking "love bugs' are out and you have to stop and clean the windshields every 30 minutes.  i remember being in Arizona once when the crickets were so thick it made the streets slick.  We stopped to eat and I lost my appetite because the little diner was crawling with crickets inside and out.  I just hate bugs!

I'm not fond of them on my windscreen or in a diner during lunch. Otherwise it's live & let live.
