Hey folks, in talking with BFD over the last several days as regards my last post....I came up with an idea that I would like to put out there on how to solve this voter ID issue.

Let's bring back the old Draft Registration System....and issue a National ID Card to everyone over the age of 17.

Everyone 18 years and older would be reguired to register and would receive an ID which could be used to verify who they are. Naturalized citizens could have to apply once they become eligible.

This would take less time to implement then the present process....it would be free and would have all of the rules that the old Draft Card used to have....I still have mine by the way!!

What do you think??

This sound slike a good idea...but then again, another ID I have to carry?

....and issue a National ID Card to everyone over the age of 17.

_________

You may wish to subject yourself to intrusion by the Central government....but why mandate others must give up their liberties because it is your desire?

Sure. Why not? Thing is, I can't understand why anyone thinks there is an I.D. problem to begin with. Anyone who has enough ID to drive, buy alcohol or cash a check also has enough ID to vote. But guess what, of the 4 (driving, buying alcohol, cashing checks and voting) only voting doesn't require ID! The whole voting ID thing is a SAC (Socialist/Anarchist/Communist) program to undermine American social adhesion.

I just put a comment on the last post before I saw this...I think the national ID card is a possible solution, but it does re-create one of the biggest burocracies we ever had...and a corrupt one at that.  I still feel like this is an issue that the states should handle, they issue drivers licenses, even the federally mandated Commercial Drivers Licenses are managed at state level.  Colorado issues state IDs for those who don't drive...from the DMV, requiring no increase in government agencies or workers.  I don't feel it is any violation of my privacy, in the face of the flood of illegals, many of whom VOTE, it just makes good sense for people to be able to prove who they are.  Any one who has spent any time overseas and seen the requirements of our allies, supposedly "FREE" nations, it is really not much to ask to carry some kind of ID.

Exactly BFD!!

I don't get it winning, BFD just disagreed with everything you said, yet your reply to him is "Exactly." You DO now agree that voter ID is a good idea, but only if helps Charlie Rangel's long standing demand to re-institute the draft? Or is it that you DO agree that state DMV issued ID is the way to handle it? Or is it that you DO agree that a draft board issued national ID card would create another massive and redundant bureaucracy? Please explain???

Neo.....what I again often do on my post is take a position to start a dialogue!!

On this issue...again I think I have said that I have no problem with the concept of ID's....my concern is with new rules suddenly imposed by whomever....federal or state government all the same to me....to fix something that really isn't broken!!

No I don't believe we should go back to the draft....but my point to BFD was that he and I had discussed this on the previous Post and he had stated there that I had argued myself around to his position.

This new requirement imposed by select states is imposing a burden on the systems already in place in those systems and it won't fix the problem!

Every time I go to vote I am asked for my registration card and some form of ID...I give either my drivers license or my Military Retiree ID and it is accepted....everyone in the line provides some form of ID. When I lived in a small precinct in another county....everyone knew everyone and my registration card was enough.....hell I was normally the only Republican voting at that precinct!!

These post are to generate dialogue....again I think the issue will become a non-issue as ID's will be obtained and laws will be passed to solve a non problem.

By the way HR 418...the proposed National ID bill was initially proposed by a Conservative!

In Florida we have a State ID for those who don't have driver's license either because they never learnd how to drive, had them revoked or at a certain age (OLD LOL) gave up driving--it is a hassle for someone who doesn't drive to get it (regarding appointments to apply) and I don't think you can get it via the Internet anymore--I don't know if other States already have it in place.

Winning you are simply thinking of doing what they, the socialistcommunists in power now want you to do.Walk in,register and let the govt into your life get a chip too while you're at it!.Anyone can get a state ID now from the DMV,,,less govt the better! They never have done anyone any good now have they!?

Some states give ID's not even asking, much less asking for proof, if the person recieving it is a US citizen....

When I went in to get my last drivers' license I had to give my prints. All they would have to do in my state to KNOW who I am and if I am legally able to vote is to use a machine to ID my prints, confirm I am a US citizen ( my records are ALL there including my BC) and I could vote. I don't mind being IDed. As it is now I take my BC, social security card and my DL and show them all. I am always told I don't "need" to show ID. Yes, I do. It is MY way of saying, "If you are not legal to vote- DON'T!"

True it is too easy to get ID's and even easier to make them.THey register you here to vote at any DMV or social service office...not good! Napolitano made it too easy,,and Brewer hasn't changed it,hum!Think we all have enough id's ,if they'd only ck them!! without getting the one national one from bho though don't trust the govt. much,ha what an understatement that is.

Hey Rose...Happy New Year!!

Have no fear....these post are just to begin a dialogue on the issue!! Just to see what people think!!

I think the ID thing is a non-issue and will resolve itself....but it is interesting to see what others think!!

Happy New Year Docwinning! Lets all hope it doesn't resolve itself into full blown communism,we are losing too many freedoms already.Well, lol can't say we aren't thinking in this important new year.

"Let's bring back the old Draft Registration System" Charles Rangel would agree with you on that idea.

I have to have a gov't issued ID to cash a check, apply for welfare or subsidized housing, apply for social security or disability, rent a movie, write a check, board a plane or Amtrak train, visit a friend in jail, rent a car or U=Haul truck, send away for my birth certificate, request a death certificate of a relative, and a multitude of other things in life.   As of the last year or two, (per dept of homeland security) you have to present a birth certificate, social security card, et al...to renew your driver's license...even if you've had a license in that state for 60 years or more.  I assume the same applies for a state issued ID, in cAse of losing a license, or no longer able to drive, or not wanting to drive.

Outside of the few extreme situations, I cannot imagine anybody not having some sort of gov't issued ID.  It's pretty hard to imagine anybody could function in this country without one.

In Florida, you have to show an ID to vote.  In our semi-rural county, they have a list of registered voters.  You go to the line of A-F....G-n,.....etc.   Last name initial. They look at your ID,  check you off the list, hand you your ballot, then you vote.

I do NOT like the idea of some kind of national ID registry.  They have social security numbers which I think is already above and beyond their place to have.

PS:  A few months ago a friend of mine got pulled over for not using her turn signal.  Turns out, her license had been suspended due to letting her insurance lapse.  The officer took the tag off her car and confiscated her license, and left her standing by the side of the road.  She's extremely physically disabled. (She eventually took her chances and drove home and got there okay)  The following week she had an appointment with a new cardiologist.  I picked her up to take her to the appointment.  Because she could not produce a photo ID, they refused to see her.  We tried to get them to call the referring physician, because of her distinctive speech impairment, the doc's office would have known for sure it was her and verified it with the new doc.....but no....HIPPA Law requires a photo ID, so that is the rule everywhere.  You cannot even go to the doctor without state issued photo ID.

Mama that a shame the way your friend was treated.....but once again you have actually proven what I have been trying to say....these voter ID laws were not necessary....everyone has some form of ID that can verify who they are...all that is required at the polling place is that it be checked....new laws won't correct the fraud problem.

On the confiscating of yours friends license...in Maryland they take the tag....never heard of anyone taking the license!! You guys are tough down there!!

This Voter ID law will affect college kids who used to use their school ID's as verification...and that's it!!

I do NOT believe we need any kind of National ID card .  Virtually every citizen in this country has a social security number.  I think that's plenty enough for our federal govt to control, regarding our identities. The whole idea of a National ID card kinda makes me think of 'big brother.'

But I do believe they should require a govt issued photo ID to vote.

In California, the lines at the DMV's are generally 2-4 hours to even get in the door, do you expect the elderly, or someone with small children to actually stand in that line to get a voter ID? The entire idea is ludicrous at best, voter suppression at the very least.

How about California getting rid of the fat and Socialist SEIU Union, instantly fire everyone who goes on strike to extort obscene benefits, and hire people who get what they earn and earn what they get? Or we can just keep going down this socialist path and we'll all be unemployed.

you know...I've been freaking gone for at least a month. But it seems that with some people, such as you, that nothing ever changes. Would you freaking mind if I have a freaking opinion of my own? One that doesn't have to lead to someother pile of dogpoo? Is that OK with YOU?

Hey Charlie....missed you man!!

Ready to start the conversion process??? :-D

you didn't even notice that I started it with you , your almost here man, just come towards the light my friend!!!{#apploud.gif}{#basic-laugh.gif}
