Someone To Watch Over Me

Thank you Con for reminding me that this blog is for posting my Mom's favorite songs and this week is the 21st anniversary of her passing.
This was one of her most favorite songs, she was such a Gershwin fan and had so many LP's of different singers singing this one song. Her favorite was Ella Fitzgerald but she also loved Frank Sinatra'a version.  Today's youngies would probably love Amy Winehouse's (may she rest in peace) version.
Enjoy.

There's a saying old, says that love is blind

still we're often told seek and you shall find

so I'm going to seek a certain lad I've had in mind.

Looking everywhere havent found him yet

he's the big affair I cannot forget,

only man I ever think of with regret.

I'd like to add his initial to my monogram,

tell me where is the shepherd for this lost lamb.

There's a somebody I'm longing to see,

I hope that he turns out to be someone who'll watch over me.

I'm a little lamb who's lost in the woods

I know I could always be good

to one who'll watch over me.

Although he may not be the man some girls think of as handsome,

to my heart he carries the key.

Wont you tell him please to put on some speed, follow my lead, oh how I need

Someone to watch over me.

Wont you tell him please to put on some speed

follow my lead, oh how I need

Someone to watch over me.

Someone to watch over me.

It's time I found someone to watch over me.

Certain songs do bring back memories of loved ones, who have passed on. I know you still miss your Mom after all these years. You will find someone to watch over you sooner or later. "Just the right time Maria." Pretty song! {#floating.gif}

Thank you Allie. Have a terrific weekend.

And give up your freedom?????  LOL

Hang in there--I will win the powerball tomorrow---$200MIL!!

wow!!! you're right.....sure dont want to give up my freedom!!!  Crossing fingers , toes and anything else that is crossable for you to win the big one!!

Maria!

The Lord will watch over you until a special someone appears on the scene. Gotta get out with nice groups of people. Try Church Social Functions. My wife & I go to a Church Senior's Breakfast (Pot Luck) every Tuesday. I'm not looking, but there are a lot of lonely people there. In the meantime, I get an extra hug now & then. Beautiful Music. I copied the Lyrics, so sentimental.

I changed my mind Con, I think I'm quite happy being on my own now..as Martin said, complete freedom comes from being on your own and independent. I like being independent. But thanks anyway. Yes, this is a beautiful song...it was among that list of 40's music you posted a link to.

Good to be independent, I was divorced for 8 years, it was lonely.

Lonely is not a good feeling, but I have heaps of friends and now that I'm back in Perth, I have my family too so it's okay.

Loved them both Con, thank you very much.

Freedom and love are not mutually exclusive.

Who says you can't have both?

It's a beautiful song. It's a shame no one is writing songs like they used to anymore. The kind you remember all your life and when you listen to them, it takes you back to another time in the past. Beautiful!  ♡♡♡

Do you know, I've still got a couple of boxes full of my mom's old LP's?  The only thing is, I dont have a player and I dont know if you can still get them these days...lol.  I've got albums and albums she used to buy from Readers Digest, collections of about ten to twelve LP's.  Dont even know who I would pass them down to....guess they'll end up in landfill somewhere one day....how sad.

All the songs and singers are available on YouTube, itunes, DVDs, etc.

I hear them on broadwayaccuradio!!

yup, which means this collection of LP's which she treasured more than anything else is destined for the dump eventually.....I wish there was a better place for them to end up in.

Maria~  My MIL passed away a few years ago at age 99.  She had dozens and dozens of those types of record sets, too....along with hundreds of books.  We had them, along with most of the other stuff out of her house, including tons of household  items, dishes, antiques, stored down at the barn/shop, planning on doing a big yard sale.  The barn caught fire, and every bit of that stuff was lost.

oh my goodness!!!!  That's terrible!!  I dont know what else to say. You just cant put a price on sentimental value, can you.

I sure dont want my Mom's stuff to end up at the dump or get burned in a nasty fire for that matter....but I really dont know what's going to happen to them as I've got no one to pass them on to.

Any nieces, nephews????

Yes, it was a devastating loss for us.  What a mess!

yes, but they're totally not interested in any of that sort of stuff unfortunately.  Heck, they dont even want old photographs (those black and white ones) because they dont have a clue who the people are, so they're not interested.  They think LP's and 45's are funny and cant imagine music coming from anything but dvd's and iphones....lol.

You might be able to find a collector, online, who would be interested in purchasing them.There was a time, maybe 20 years ago, they were a hot item, and some records went for pretty big bucks...altho that's really not much the case these days.

We have a whole box of albums as well...and the same problem..nothing to play them on. We thought about seeing what they might be worth, but with no way to play them, how would we know what shape they are in. I've seen record players for sale - I guess we just have to buckle down and get one. Most of the records don't have the sleeves any longer and I did but some to protect them. Just need to get the chance to listen to them...one of these days.

They'll probably be worth a lot about two hundred years from now...just gotta find a place to keep them until then...lol.

yes, I wish I had a player too. It would be very nostalgic to be able to play them again.

ILC & Maria...there are companies manufacturing record players again.  Lots of them available online.  Just do a search for 'purchase record player,' or purchase turntable.'   Wide range of prices, but many less than $100.

Maria, please read my comment to you and ILC just above this comment.

Did you see the threat PatriotDeluxe left on Charlie's page? Threatening to find him...look at his (Charlie's) last post. Some people never grow up.

Thx Kat - I've seen them. Just need to do it. We have those very thick old records....are they 75s? I know the 33 1/3 were big, 45s were small, these are a little smaller than the 33's but about twice at thick and heavy.

thanks mamakat, my girlfriend just told me that here in Perth there are still plenty of them you can get at garage sales including records. I love going to garage sales around my neighborhood so will check them out first.

OMG, yes I did...tiny hairs on my arms stood up.  The guy is definitely unwell.

I just wrote patriot a personal message. I know he's checking back since he wrote his farewell blog. He actually has some good points in what he write at times, but I told him he now has a "black eye" acting like a immature bully on a school yard. Unbelievable!!

Sounds like he took lessons from someone else we know who once threatened to find and harm people here, huh?

yup, you read my mind.

I think he is a very unstable person, anyone with common sense would not do such a thing unless they have so much hatred inside, it is destroying their sense of reasoning.

I did get a little bit of a giggle out of Charlie's post though.....did you read what he put as ''related tags" for his article?  It's hilarious!!

No i didn't but I'll go back and look. for some reason i've never been a "tag" person. i've seldom used them nor had a need for them.

Ella and Gershwin--a potent couple!!!!

Your mother is still looking over you--didn't you feel that shoulder push 2 days ago? That was her!!!{#lips2.gif} {#lips.gif} {#heart.gif}

She's always been close by, but sometimes she gives me to much rope to hang myself before she intervenes....lol.

Oh Puhleeze--you are still here--she knows when to cut the rope--she just teases you!

It's no doubt a lovely song Maria.  I think your mother is grooving along to the song up above.  You are back in Australia now mate?

yup, have been back since 22nd December.  A bit hard getting settled back down to living here, still missing my fur-babies and Jakarta, believe it or not...lol.

They have Catalog Sales. Record Player $70.00 call Toll Free  1-800-308-1384

I still have 45's and LP's from the 60s, even a few 8 tracks, and lots of cassettes, my kids and grands will probably just throw them all in the garbage -my memories, long gone  !!!

maybe you should tell one of them (your grandkids) that this stuff might be worth a fortune in a few years time....maybe that will give them an incentive to hang on to your stuff....lol..

You still have your memories. That's all that matters. {#giveflowers.gif}

Absolutely Okie, memories are precious treasures.{#floating.gif}{#flowre.gif}

Maria,

Reading your blog and listening to that song was the straw that broke the camel's back.  After a good long cry, I made a blog about someone who was very special to me.  He was killed Nov 17, 2011 and I left blogster and didn't come back until NY's eve.  I know the blog I wrote is rambling but it helped...some.

Just your title, the song, makes me cry.  Such a wonderful tribute to your mom.  God bless you!  We do have our memories.   Lots of {#friend.gif}   to you.

oh Arkmama, I am so sorry for your loss. After the pain, the memories are what we treasure....I lost my hubby back in 2001, the pain is still there but the memories of the love is what dulls it. Your loss is very recent, it will take a lot of time and you must allow yourself to feel the pain so that you can move through it. It does get better, I promise you.{#friend.gif}{#giveflowers.gif}{#giveflowers.gif}

I'm so sorry about your husband, I didn't know about that.  This was a kid i had not seen since 1986 but my kids had been in close contact with him for several years and we spoke of him often and passed messages.  I had no idea his loss would affect me so much.  it would take days to tell all the good things this kid did although he was gone before I learned of most of them.

I just read your post, you wrote it very well. Writing about your sorrow can help a lot. I hope it helped you.

It did Maria and you gave me the kick I needed.  I've pretty much quit wearing out old photos.  LOL!

Good for you!!!!  Have a wonderful weekend arkmama...I'm off to have lunch with some friends. Havent seen them for almost ten years...so it will be great.

Have fun and thank you!

There are turn tables that can plug directly into a USB port and come with a program to turn the songs into MP3's so you can store them on the computer, transfer them to your phone or Ipod devise, and you'll save the wear and tear on the vinyl. I have one, my little brother gave it to me, so when i want to listen to an album now, I listen to it and record it at the same time. Yes, some albums are worth a ton of money, it's worth saving them and keeping them in good condition.

turntables that can plug directly into a USB port? well my goodness....isnt there anything sacred that technology wont touch?{#rofl.gif}{#rofl.gif}{#rofl.gif}{#rofl.gif}

nope, nuthin, lol. Its kinda cool, this way you can put them on a cd and not have to mess them up, they will be worth money one of these days, many of them already are.

Love this song, too! Sings to my heart.... {#heart.gif}

Glad this post made your heart sing today Martne...{#floating.gif}
