Wilhelmina Dan Agency
Colors Agency “is absolutely the leading one,” in Memphis, said Jonathan Epstein, co-owner of Running Pony Productions, which creates everything from national commercials to local company training videos. a local producer of video and digital content, The sale of it “is a double-edge sword. It’s exciting that it opens up talent not as much at our fingertips before,” he said. He hopes for the same great service he got from Bracey and Outlan. “It could be the 11th hour, but one call to Colors, and we’d have that thing we needed or the closest thing to it,” he said.
Adrienne Campbell, a Realtor and a Colors model since 1999, hopes for more work from Dan. “They’re an agency in a lot of cities, not just Memphis, and I think there will be more opportunities,” she said. She calls the Memphis market stable, commercial (as opposed to editorial) and still part-time. Most professional models she knows who remain in this area attend school or have another part-time or full-time job.
Dan Agency’s Web site in Nashville and other cities divide the talent into markets. But clients in Nashville, for example, can search the Memphis market too, said Williams, 38.
Colors Agency will retain its name, location, phone number and talent here, said Williams, and it may grow. “We want it to expand around the region as Colors,” she said, and is looking at Jackson, Miss., as a possibility.
She is considering converting the Memphis Wilhelmina- Dan Agency operation into a kids and teens specialty agency. “We’ve got a lot of fabulous kids in Memphis,” she said.
“Colors has a great film division. We have experience in that area and we want to continue that growth,” she said.
Other opportunities may come by association.
Dan Agency, founded in 2001 in Nashville, owns another agency in Memphis and one in Houston. Two more agencies are licensed with them in Atlanta and New Orleans. The agency currently represents about 1,200 models, actors, celebrities, voice-over artists, singers and dancers and makeup artists; the addition of Colors will adds close to 600 more models and actors. Cross-over bookings among all the cities should be a help to both clients and talent, said Stephanie Williams.
