Response[edit]

Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Foreign Minister, described the killing "as an act of state terror".[20] He alleged Israeli involvement in the incident.[21] The international affairs adviser to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ali Akbar Velayati, declared that "The Iranian nation will avenge the blood of this great martyr from the terrorist elements and their supporters."[22] Abdolrahim Mousavi, head of the Iranian army, blamed Israel and the US and threatened revenge.[16] Hezbollah also criticized the killing and alleged US and Israeli involvement.[22]

From The Jerusalem Post

Iran vowed revenge on Saturday for the assassination a day earlier of its top nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, raising the threat of a new confrontation between the Islamic Republic and the West with just over seven weeks left of US President Donald Trump’s term in office.

“Once again, the evil hands of global arrogance were stained with the blood of the mercenary usurper Zionist regime,” Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said. “Iran will surely respond to the martyrdom of our scientist at the proper time.”
