Phi - The Divine Proportion

I am currently reading "The Da Vinci Code" by Ian Brown, cos I have nothing else to do when I am on the train everyday. I suppose I could ogle girls :P

So in this book, the author mentions about 1.618. I thought I should share this with all of you. This is an excerpt from it.

The number 1.618 is called the divine proportion. This number is PHI (I think its prounounced ''fee''). It shouldnt be confused with PI.

Fibonacci Numbers
The fibonacci numbers are 1 1 2 3 5 8 13 21 34 55 89..... The quotient of these adajacent numbers converge to PHI. E.g., 3/2=1.5, 5/3=1..666, 8/5=1.6, 13/8=1.625, 21/13=1.615, 34/21=1.619, 55/34=1.617, 89/55=1.618 ..... This may just look like another mathematical mystery. But what''s more astonsihing is the fact its found in nature.

PHI in nature

The nautilus is a sea creature that pumps gas into its chamered shells to adjust its buoyancy and hence move around in water, with little effort. The ratio of each spiral''s dimater to the next is PHI.
Also, the ratio of each rotation of suflower''s seeds is PHI.

This is clearly beyond coincidence. Might this number be chosen by GOD???? This is why early scientists called PHI the The Divine Proportion
