Normally I get to work about 8. But Wednesday night I was watchin London''s olympic bid presentation on BBC''s website. So I went to bed late, got up late and was late for work. I got to work about 8:20. And the first bomb had gone off about 8:50. So it was in mys destiny that I should be late, but early enough to miss it. This just shows how fragile our lives are. We dont really know what might happen so live your life today.

I didnt knw abt this incident until 11, when a colleague MrP asked me if I would like to use his spare room if the trains are unavailable. Before that, another colleague told me that there was a power surge and some of the tube services are affected. Later another colleague who had been stuck in the tube for 20 mins came to work.

I checked my phone and my parents had tried to get hold of me. I tried ringing them but all the mobile networks where busy. Finally I left a message on the home phone. Later my mum got through and she was glad to hear that I was ok.

But later in the afternoon, as the news broke out about the bombings, the seriousness of the situation donned on me. Our company asked eveyone to stay on site and provided free lunch. As our company is a news provider we had live telecasts broadcast to our computer terminal and we listened to travel guidelines provided by the emergency services.

MrP, his friend and I left early as we had to walk all the way to his home. We walked to London Bridge station and planned to eat dinner at a pub near by. The streets were full of ppl with fews vehicles on the road. It was like the whole ant hill was on the move. When we got to pub it was closed and so were most of the other business venues. While crossing the bridge I saw that trains have resumed operating, so I went to the station . The emergency services were at the station. Services were delayed but they were running. Finally I got home and was a huge relief for my parents.

Ofcourse it didnt stop there. As the rest of the world woke up to the news, relatives from all over the world started calling to check up on us. After all the calls, I went to bed and had some time to reflect on this.

I must say on this day I was proud to be British. Our emergency services were brave and quick to respond. They kept the situation under control. They said it was a power surge. It might have been a lie told to keep ppl from panicking and it sure worked. They moved the ppl calmly out of the tube. Our Prime Minister Tony Blair made a statement from the G8 summit and everyone was awwing at the TV. Why wouldnt they? This was really powerful image of Mr Blair speaking with the full support of the world leaders behind him.

FRIDAY
------
My mom asked me to take day off. But I refused. I dont want to live in fear and that is exactly what the terrorist wanted - "Ppl to live in fear". Besides, if its my destiny to die, I will die. Even if I stay home, I may slip in the shower , break my skull, lay there unconscious and bleed to death. That is what destiny. You might be able to alter it but you cant completly escape from it.

Most of the services resumed in the morning. I didnt take the tube and walked instead. Its not that far, the tube just makes you think that the london is really big, but stations are just round the street. Businesses from Newspaper vendors and street florists to multi-national companies began operating as normal. Most small bank branches where closed. This is understandable as they dont have enough security guards employed.

Someone said in the News that ppl of Britain are brave. They were brave during the Battle of Britain and they were brave now. The only thing these petty terrorists did is to steal some of our loved ones. Other than the that they have failed in every other respect.

To the terrorists:

God is merciful and
vengeance is a human trait

So dont use God''s words to justify your irrationl behaviour.
