War is not the answer! Vote for Ron Paul!
I don’t really follow politics as closely as some Americans do, but I do some research before Election Day. It was just three and a half years ago that I voted for Obama because our country was in need of change and something new. I knew that Chico was a fairly small city so it was big news to here that Ron Paul was coming to town. A professor of mine informed our class that he was going to give a speech on our campus and I didn’t want to miss out on my first live speech from a presidential candidate. I gathered my roommates and we rode our bicycles to campus where there were thousands of Ron Paul fans.
I was excited to hear him speak even though it was hard to see over the taller folks who had been there reserving there spot. He emphasized that we need to get our troops out of Afghanistan and he also mentioned that 70% of Americans said the same. Ron Paul went on to explain that Domestic enemies are our real threats today and that we need to control violence and gangs in our own country. We shouldn’t barge into other countries problems, but instead solve our problems first.
I was well aware that America is in serious debt, but Ron Paul seemed to have a simple fix to this growing dilemma. He proposed the idea that we should cut the National budget by one trillion each year. He made it clear that we are in the greatest debt in the history of the world as he shared insights about digging out of that hole. He made it clear that we can’t prolongue the agony of this huge debt so we need to make corrections to fix this. If we can even pay back something each year, we will be making steps in the right direction for a better future.
Ron Paul also said that the government shouldn’t undermine liberty, but just protect it. He claimed that if he were elected, he would take advantage of the opportunity to shrink the government instead of watching it grow with our debt. The crowd stirred up once we heard Ron Paul mention that the government plans to implement 40,000 new laws in January. He then reassured us that if he was elected, he would do everything in his power to get rid of 40,000 laws.
Ron Paul brought up the idea of technology and how much it has grown within the last few years. He recommends that we use technology to our advantage to communicate with the rest of the world. He states that instead of bombing other countries, we should instead just use simple communication to talk out the problems. I would love to see our country happily communicating with our enemies’ leaders so that we can solve the problems at hand.
I have always been frightened of a World War 3 there are atomic and nuclear bombs that could end the world. I have always hated war because no good comes out of it. There is a winner and a loser, or in some cases, there are two losers. I like the aspect that Ron Paul shared in saying that we should use communication to get what we want and to solve our countries’ problems. After hearing Ron Paul’s speech in Chico, I really think he could be the next leader to get us out of this debt. His last few words were “when are we going to wake up and say ‘war is not the answer!’” I truly agree with much of what Ron Paul said and so until I do further research, Ron Paul has my vote!

Unfortunately Ron Paul doesn't stand a chance and anyone who votes for him is wasting an important vote. Don't get me wrong--I like some of his ideas but Americans have and will reject him.
