We are happy to roll out the first phase of the new Blogster Live Chat this evening for your chatting pleasure. This will allow you to chat with people who have similar interests by joining chat rooms related to the topic you want to talk about. For general chit chat feel free to join the Blogster room, that will be the main hideout of the team as well.

To check out the new chat, hit up this Chat link or the one at the top of the page. It will then present you with a page of topics of chat you are welcome to join. After joining your friends list is automatically loaded from Blogster. If your age is set to be hidden (Settings > Privacy > "Who Can See My Birthday?"), it is also hidden from the chat.

Things to remember about the chat:

  • There are rules, and you should read them.
  • It is brand new - if you have any issues feel free to message them to bobski. We have given it an exaustive work over in IE7, IE8, Firefox, and Safari, so for the most part there should not be any major problems we do not already know about.
  • Also because it is new, there is nobody chatting yet. The longer you hang around in the chat room the better chances are of you meeting someone to chat with. If you only stick around for 30 seconds before anybody else joins of course it will be boring. Try setting a specific time with your friends to all join at once to chat!
  • Even if the counts say "0 Chatters" in a chat room, that may not be the case because it only counts active chatting. There might be people there waiting for someone to else to start a conversation, never know until you look!
  • However, just because someone is in the chat room does not mean they will reply to your chat. Remember people do walk away from computers every now and then. {#basic-wink.gif}
  • You must be logged in to blogster for chat to work.
  • Depending on your internet speed and network congestion, it might take a second or two for it to load.

I've had long chats with two of my friends in the chat room ages ago. Nobody else seems to have cottoned on to it...but I use it when the two friends are on the same time as me. The only thing is, it is not private and people can read the chatting without joining in....like eavesdropping....lol.

But you know they're there because you can see who enters the room.

Also for those who want their conversations deleted, it is automatically deleted when you sign out...not like at that other place where the chats stay there for anyone else to read. You have to manually clear the chat room yourself.

the nice part about this blogster chat is that IT HAS PRIVATE ROOMS. so if you want to talk to somebody one on one...then you can do so. {#basic-laugh.gif}

Good luck--it has been MY experience that chat rooms on blog sites just don't work/last--hope you are the exception to the rule.

remember this is only phase 1. additional features coming soon might make it more useful for more people.

hmmmm. you're on dial up right?

Yes but I don't find that a problem on chat rooms I do go to--why?

i was hoping to know how fast the chat rooms loaded on your end. {#basic-laugh.gif}

Just tested it--less than a minute which is fast for dial up!  LOL

WOW...thanks!!!!

it was fun tonight. I don't do them often, but I did enjoy the few minutes I was there.

That's cos you were chatting to your angels, Charlie...lol. and one of them was cheeky enough to ask you to pick which of her half naked pics she should use for her next avatar pic....lol.

yep, I'm a giver! {#basic-cool.gif}

I haven't checked the chat feature out yet, but might do so in the future.  If your programming weenies (and I call them that with much affection) want to see some outstanding features for a free chat program, have them visit www.voodoochat.com for some inspiration.  It is, by far, the best free chat proggy I've ever seen, but the community itself is not very welcoming to newcomers.  Most of the members used to be either hosts or hackers (sometimes both) from Excites old Virtual Places chat, which was popular in the early 90s.

I met my current husband there, in the Poetry Cafe.  Ahhh, the memories....

umm the chat seems to have been under system updates lately.  so i havent got to chat with my friends.  I really want to try it. lol teehee
