It has been a long search. I have run into many road blocks, but recently I received information that was a big surprise. My father suddenly remembered meeting his great grandfather from his father's mother's side. He told me the story of going with his grandmother to visit her father. He said they went into the mountains of Garrochales to see him. He remembered his great grand father as a "big Indian". He was a very young boy so I'm sure any adult would have looked big to him.
All of these years I have been seeking these roots form his mother's side. I had know idea it was on his father's as well. The grandmother (Ramona Robles) I was told by my mother, was a pure Spaniard, turns out to be one of my links to the Taino! I am now seeking information on my grandfather Ramon Marchand Robles mother. I finally found out who my grandfather's father was. It was a man by the name of Manuel "Manolo" Marchan. My father remembers stories about him as a ladies man.
It is amazing how one little piece of information can bring back memories of the past. This is only just a small part of my journey. I still have much to learn not just about my family roots but about the Taino from whom I descend.
