Added: Sunday, September 18th 2011 at 8:33am by stbarbnative

"A hardly meal for cold days. Not diet cautious."
Servings: 6-8
Ingredients:
- 2 pound of beef cubes or ground beef
- 1 large onion (yellow) halved and sliced
- a package of sliced mushrooms if not packaged 5-6 large mushrooms your choice
- dry dill weed (fresh can be used but not recommended)
- 1 can of cream of soup (I've tried mushroom, celery, asparagus (classic would be chicken)
- 1 medium container of Sour Cream
- 1/2 cup red wine (port is better)
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 Tb of minced garlic
Directions:
Brown meat with garlic. Add slice onions and mushrooms. Add port. Let simmer until onions and mushrooms are translucent. Add cream soup. Sprinkle a lite coat of dill weed on top of beef mixture. Add salt and pepper. Now for the Stroganoff part. Add the Sour Cream. Cook until thick. Stirring occasionally. For about 30 minutes.
This is great on rice, egg noodles, couscous, polenta.... Bon Appetite

One of our favorites. I use ground sirloin, tried it once with sirloin steak...what a waste of a good steak, which I would much rather have grilled, broiled, or in fajitas.
I've never tried it with dill weed, but am planning to plant some in my garden this week, so maybe some day I'll try it that way. I'm mainly planting it as a companion plant...it benefits some lettuce and cabbage family crops, repels squash bugs, and attracts hornworms and helps keep them off the tomatoes and peppers.
Your recipe is very similar to mine, otherwise. I always use mushroom soup, have never tried it with other types of soups.
