Padlocks of Love

Interesting and unusual story from Russia about a tradition that started a couple of years ago.  Newlyweds put a padlock on a tree or fence, or in a river, to symbolize their everlasting love.  Link to the story is below:

Very interesting indeed. Good to see new ideas joining the traditional.

Action - Yep, there's always room for new traditions I think.

......and may the trend continue evermore.

When I was in Minsk with my friend Valentina we went for a walk in Gorki Park.  There is an ornate Chinese style bridge there across a small stream and almost every piece of metalwork on the bridge was covered in these padlocks.  Many of them were quite large and a lot of them had the names of the two lovers painted onto them.  A rather nice tradition I thought.

Fangio - I think it's nice.  I'm sure the padlock manufacturer's love it too.

One guy I saw in Minsk got it all wrong though.

He left his girlfriend padlocked to the bridge.....

Maybe he could just see into the future and was trying to save time....

Very good.

Hope it catches on over here.  Love the idea.

WW - Me too.

That's cool...Thanks for sharing!

d - No problem.  Just remember me when it comes time to sign the movie rights....{#basic-smile.gif}

I have never heard tell of such a thing.  What a really cool tradition!  Thanks for sharing this great story.

Mama - You're welcome.  Knew I had to post it as soon as I read about it.

And soon there will be broken padlocks all over Russia--you know nongays don't stay married!! (Hey, if I don't pick on them--the nongays, not the padlocks--who would?!?!

GM - Instead of picking on us heteros, you should be fixing those padlocks and re-issuing them with hetero chastity belts, to try and keep population in check.

We, the Gays, are doing our job to keep the population in check--it is the nongays that our eroding our world! And aren't we la-dee-da with 'us heteros' and 'hetero chasity belts'--luckily the latter doesn't exist in the happy world!

Very interesting story skinny!  I had never heard of it so thanks for sharing!

Kat - You're most welcome.  I thought it was a neat story.

I love the idea of ancient padlocks and the old keys.....what a great tradition.

MM - It is.  Good tourist attraction too.

Thats awesome Skinny..

Rant - thanks.  I thought it was a very cool idea.
