Have been super busy and not much on blogster lately.  My apologies to all those who's blog entries I have not read yet.  Anyway, I was reading the SF Chronicle tonight, and ran into an article about Glen Campbell and his farewell tour.  Going out in a classy farewell tour as he slows down from Alzheimers.  The article was nicely written worth a read.  The link is here:

I was never a huge Glen Campbell fan, but I do remember hits such as Rhinestone Cowboy, and By The Time I Get to Phoenix, as well as a few others.  So went on youtube and watched/listened to one of the tracks from his new farewell album.  The song is "Ghosts on the Canvas", and it's pretty contemporary, with him doing a nice job on vocals.  I was impressed, and may check out more of his more recent stuff.  I'm putting the video up here as well, for all of you to check out.

Sad about his disease....but he's a class act.  I always liked "Wichita Lineman".....and I remember relatives telling me that the lyrics to "Galveston" was in reference to a soldier in the Vietnam war.

Thanks for the tribute skinny....and good to see you back.

MM -  Just for you...{#basic-smile.gif}

oh skinny....you're such a good friend.  and lucky you live in Calif.  I was singing my heart out with him til he started really getting down with the guitar licks!  wow!  he hasn't lost a beat.

Thanks!!

I THOUGHT I heard some dogs howling in the distance.  Maybe your backup singers.....

HAD to be...!  Or mikey my dog joining in....it couldn't have been me!!

I liked quite a few of his songs.  Can't say I was a really huge fan, but have basically never been a huge fan of any musician or celebrity.

This was a great write-up about him....really enjoyed it. I hadn't heard about his illness at all, so thanks for sharing this.

Mama - Youse welcome.

Time for ice cream?

I'm out...need to get some more.  Meant to have had son pick some up tonight on his way home, but forgot.

Tomorrow.....hopefully I'll remember!  I'm not having much luck with the gaining weight.

Oh were you gone???{#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif}

It's old news about Glen--why are you nongay guys always so behind on IMPORTANT news???

I wasn't a fan of his until I saw him in person--put on a great show!

GM - I guess us non gays have something about always being behind........

Yes, contain yourself, be good.... G rated only......{#basic-smile.gif}

You know, if you stop posting so damn many blog entries, I might have more time to read the news......

THEY ARE THE NEWS---you don't have to read anything else! I tell you what happened years ago and what is happening now--the important things--let's face it the politicians, politics, wars, recessions, etc. stay the same with different players--now my life is another story!

"G" rated??? Kids aren't even G rated today--and in the words of Mae West

GM - I think that is my favorite Mae West quote of all time.  She was something special.

She has so many great quotes and she wrote them all herself!

Well I didn't know about this until now. It's too bad. Alzheimer's desease is awful, and hard on the family to watch their loved one leave them a little more each day.

MS - I can attest to that.  Nasty, nasty disease.

In his case, nice thing is that three of his kids are in his band, so it makes the concerts and tour all that more special, for all of them, and I suppose for all the audience as well.

True!

Oh, I like Glen Campbell's songs. I really like "Southern Nights" and "Rhinestone Cowboy." So sorry about his problem.

FL - Me too.  Nice to see him performing so long though.

It's to bad that we lose so many people to Alzheimers. I wish they could come up with a cure for it soon.

Rhinestone Cowboy......

I used to bootscoot to Rhinestone cowboy....shhhhh, dont tell anyone...lol.

shhhhh I want tell a soul. I do love that song. lol.

When I go through difuculties. It's nice to have a faith to calm my storm.

HofW- I think that's true in some form for most of us.  Life is hard enough sometimes.

I didnt know that about Glen Campbell, so sorry to hear it.  He's coming to Perth too I think, along with Kenny Rodgers.

Wind - He probably wants to see how Mother Nature has been redecorating the neighborhoods in his honor.

He is a great guitarist, rumor has it he played the twelve-string on "Walk Righ In" in '63.  He toured with the BeachBoys for a while, replacing Brian Wilson when Brian was in a drug-induced paranoid funk...and Glen had a lot of hits over the years...and he was in the original "True Grit".  He was too much like a close friend of mine for me to be much of a fan...but he has been an icon of country and pop music for a generation and deserves a salute.  Thanks, Skinny.

BFD - You're welcome.  I wasn't aware he played with the Beach Boys.  I have heard a few people compliment his guitar playing.  It's funny, never knew he was much of a guitarist before this.

I thought the farewell tour was a class act too...I liked Glen Campbell when I was a kid, especially his hair...LOL...Have a great weekend!

d - He could've been an advertisement for Johnson's Baby Shampoo,  i think.

Enjoyed this post with the video. Think I first read -heard about his alzheimers when I watched a Country Awards Special this year (?) and it was announced before he sang and rec'd an award. He sang the lyrics perfectly not missing a word then received a standing ovation from the crowd.

Hersh - I missed that show.  Nice to see him getting recognition though.
