My Son's Blogging

My son asked me to help him out with his assignment. I had to teach him how to blog.

I looked at him and frowned. "Blogging is like writing an essay. You have topics and all you have to do is just write the answers. There's nothing right or wrong about it."

Then it was his turn to frown, "but what's the difference between blogging and writing an essay? Why not just say 'kids you will write an essay and we will post it online.' According to them I have to have a style. I have to put pics on my posts so that they would be interesting."

Suddenly the images of blogs written by the Chico university students flashed by before my eyes. The things they do to make their blog interesting and engaging.

So for the next few weeks I'll be "helping" my son with his blog. At least try to make it engaging.

No, I will not write it out for him. I won't even correct his spelling and grammar. Instead, we will be talking about the topics he'll write about and ideas on 'how to approach' each subject. But when he saw my blog he became 'shy'. "You mean answering comments and talking to strangers is a part of blogging?"

"Yes luv," I grinned. "Specially if you want to make it engaging. Think of it as facebook without the games and name-calling."

Technically Brian has an account now with blogster but it is still empty.

It feels funny that for a person like me who blogs and dishes out blogging advise, I find myself speechless when my son talks about it. I am still thinking how to talk to him about blogging without sounding like a teacher.

Will see how things go from here.

Soon he will be on fire and leaving us in the dirt.  It's like teaching him to ride the bicycle and then you can't stop him.

lol. I wish. My son's not that interested in writing - yet. He likes telling stories through his drawings. So I think it is a phase.

THIS is going to be interesting.  Cannot wait to see what he comes up with.  Good luck to both of you.

Yep...I wish him good luck too.

How cool...good luck to him!

Yes. I find it interesting that they're encouraging this among Grade 7 kids in school. In some school's they've taken it a step further and teach them HTML and Photoshop at this stage.

That's cool. His name on here wouldn't happen to be sandysan would it. I denied it because there wasn't any entries or any profile stuff on who that person was.

HAHAHAHA no. His account has his pic on it for now. Also, he will be keeping to himself for a while. so...he won't be going anywhere.

lol! ok just checking...{#basic-wink.gif}

Well, the FIRST thing I can tell him that there is some real money to be made by blogging.  All he has to do is to announce that his first blog will be about digging up the dirt on dear ol' Mom........He'll be rolling in the money before he knows it....{#basic-smile.gif}

lol... or that i'm not his real mom. HA!

Are you sure exposing him to us heathens is wise?   Poor Brian!   hahahaha!

Actually that was what I was apprehensive about. In facebook he's surrounded by friends so they cuss to their heart's content without feeling offended. He apologizes the moment he offends somebody and gets along quite well with everyone.

I haven't told him the stuff that goes on in blogster. As far as he is concerned, everyone's ok on blogster. That is something that's ok with me. It's just that he feels it's like talking to elders...i mean older people. In my culture you keep things to yourself when you're in the presence of older people. In fact if you do not have anything nice to say - shut up. That's how he is. In a way, that's how I am too.

So... I honestly feel apprehensive about it. I don't mind him being here on blogster because I know everyone. At least I know he won't get seduced by some pedophile somewhere. In other blogs...not so much.

sighs...i know. Parenthood.

Congratulations for giving your son the perfect introduction to blogging. Your guiding hand in the background, is most certainly his good fortune.

As you requested, I have posted the first of my 'Cloud Searches'.

Awh! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU AT. Am heading over your blog now.

Sign Brian up to class, Rica!  We'll be kicking off again in mid-August. By then, he should be a pro.

LOL... Earlier this week my son borrowed a book in the library and was so engrossed in it that he'd read it every  time he'd get a chance to do so. People in the house would get irritated because he'd hole up in the bathroom just to read. Finally I talked to him and told him that there is a proper place and time to read books. Preferably weekends, not weekdays when he should be reading on homework.

Turns out, he borrowed a book about this person's experience regarding the Vietnam war. He couldn't put the book down. Although we weren't able to thresh out the story and discuss it, I noticed that his taste in books is slowly evolving. From sci-fi to manga to more serious topics.

I swear...I have to now install a few programs on the PC so he can read e-books.

 I saw your post, and came on to get some tips...lol!  You are a mother, so i trust your advice will be sound:) It is difficult explaining the "Why's" of bloging to a non-blogger!?!
