Food and Drinks Test Shots

I called in a friend of mine who has a lightbox. It is just a white box made out of cloth that diffuses the light for anything that would be placed inside. It was a sunny day and very humid. We placed the white box against the glass doors and used sunlight to brighten the shots.

This is their lasagna. The pasta is handmade.

I remembered what skinnyguy said about something being too white and adding texture. We used the table cloth, rumpled it..along with napkins to create a variation of -uhm- whiteness. That's what we did when we took the pic of the Penne Arrabiata.

Took a pic of this in case they might need it. It was on the bar with an Italian flag.

They served these white wines...

.... these red wines. Seriously, I am not happy with this shot. I do not know how to take photos of foil. Since we just used one light source - the sun, we didn't know how to make the words stand out. I think this needs to be redone.

... the grappa which was said could burn your throat...

and the limoncello - an appertif. One of these days - I will taste this.

Summer mocktails. My favorites happen to be St. Peter's Basilica [on the left] and the drink they named after me ...

...the Dolce Rica. Yes, I was around when they created this.

Another angle of the summer mocktails.

I liked this iced tea. This photo was taken by a friend of mine.

This is their bestseller. The Pannacotta. It's topped with sliced apples cooked in cinammon syrup.

Oh you are a cruel lady, my favourite meals you have at the top, and It's 5.10pm and I've not had lunch yet {#basic-cry.gif} , I'll have the lasagna and a glass of Mocktails thank you, Oh what the heck I'll have a pannacotta as well...everything looks just great.{#basic-laugh.gif}

Awwwh! I think that's the best compliment I've had so far - that they look appetizing enough.  Thank you!

Wow - fabulous photos - what a difference a light box makes (and a good macro lens of course!).  I think the lasagne and the grappa bottle were the best.  Well done!

oh wow... thank you. This is the first time I've done bottle shots - ever!

Those are fantastic! {#apploud.gif}

Thanks thanks enchantedone! :)

Much better Rica, much better.  The only comment I would make about the drinks is to try to find some other light source.  Sunlight is great, but as you said in your post, you have lost some of the words. The Pannacotta - I think would present better in a wide dish rather than the one you have used.  Really good photos. Congratulations.

thanks fangio. That means a lot. Actually I did a few more shots of the pannacotta because I wasn't happy with it...but since this is the first time I'm really doing food - not even pastries, I was soooooo unsure on what to do.

These are a real improvment on the first food and drink photos you published.  I just hope you are ONLY photographing them and not helping yourself to a few mouthfulls!!

nom nom nom.... too late. hahahahahahah

Seriously - THANK YOU. I think I need practise.  :)

and my friends don't mind giving me subjects to practise on.

The drinks photos are really good, particularly the Grappa.  I think if you could get a bottle of that with the top either on the bottle or completely removed from the bottle it would look stunning.

AH!!!!!! THAT is a good idea. thanks!

Great pictures.  You should join the Art Sunday crowd.

Will do in due time. :)

{#basic-smile.gif}

You take some seriously good shots. Im getting hungry looking at this lol . BTW whats in that Dolce Rica? Looks refreshing.

It started as a pink lemonade. Then it became a series of fruits with slices of Fuji apple on top. :) As a way of thanking me, they did decided to name it after me.

Actually their dad said,"Dolce means sweet, Rica means rich...it is redundant!"

My friends laughed and said that it was perfect. They were planning to name the mocktails based on the people who helped create them. :)

{#basic-cry.gif}{#basic-cry.gif} It is early morning where I am and you are so cruel! The pictures look good enough to eat right off the computer screen.

lol...awwwwwwhhhhhh wish I you were near so I could treat you!

So do I!{#basic-laugh.gif}

OK, I think you just made it to a professional title.  You GO girl :)

Awh... you mean there's that much difference between the one I did last week and this? HMMMM....! [smiles]

thank you.

Wow! You have become a pro! Great work!

hmmmm. You think so? Thank you.

I don't feel like a pro yet though... But thank you. :)

Oh but you do. You got the basic concept on lighting, and cloths, etc that can make a certain object to pop out. I don't seem to have the patience to learn all that, but I do try to learn some things. Once my son goes back to school, I will probably have more time to explore with mine.

Did you get a new camera (looking at yor avatar)?

Yes. It is a Lumix fz150. I'm trying it out. My camera is still working and I've turned it over to my son.

Looked it up. What sold me, is the flip up flash option. I like that with the canon I have. Does it seem to clunky or does it fit fine when holding it? From what I seen, it costs about $500. Too pricey for me. I don't think I could dish out more than $300 if I wanted one similar to that.

whoa! That's expensive on your end.

it was less than $400 on this end.

it fits fine...almost like a dslr without the weight or technicalities.

Well, I'm drooling over here. Now I really want one. lol!

Ok, these are grand, good job Rica. Now what am I going to do with this hunger and taste for wines? A drink names after you, how fun is that.

yes!

these are amazing tempting - great photo job

thanks!!!!

you owe me a keyboard

:)

oh...the drool short circuited it huh?

lol hugs!

yes ~ but it was worth it

((((hug))))

:)

Dont mind nemo , Rica , hes always hungry and whatever you do , dont mention shhhhhhhh (pie)

did somebody mention pie?

:)

Those are resturant perfect pictures ! Great photos

Congratulations for your amazing photography. Thank you for sharing such 'appetising teasers'.

Keep this up and we'll have to call you the Waistline Wench.....

From top to bottom, 1 at top:

1 - so/so, nothing exciting.

2 - Nic pic, nice variety of color (food and blue napkin) nice presentation of food.  Looks tasty.

3 - nice, like the flag to spice things up.

4 - like the angle of the bottles, nice shot.

5 - dark bottles and labels make this all blend into darkness.  Not so good.  I wonder if you could do the same two bottles with sun or light behind them, if that would make the wine perhaps more red than dark brown, also depending on how label came out.  Not sure of the solution, but lighter color wine and clearer labels would make this shot better.

6 - grappa - top of the bottle is bland and boring, needs fancy cap or ribbon perhaps, or a hand.  Or put it with other bottles.  Not sure, but this shot is so/so.

7 - Cellini - I like the yellow color against the white napkin.

8 - Cocktails - Nice mix of color on the drinks, fruit.  The only thing I didn't like is the bright white color from the top of the red to the top of the picture.  Wonder if you could a black background there, or something not so bright white?

9 - So/so for me.  Wondering what those white chunks are.

10 - Better than #9, like the drinks as the background.  Nice shot.

11 - Ok, I guess.

12 - Fangio is right, this dish is wrong for the dessert.  Wide dish might be okay as Fangio suggests.  The tall sides of this dish here make the dessert seem smaller, which is not good.  You could use the same size dish if the walls of the dish stopped right at the top of the dessert.     They could also decide if the dish walls were even like a glass, or if they were wavy.

Overall, a good set of pics, and I agree that they are better than last week's.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! will try to remember these!

and yes, I do agree with  some of your suggestions - specially with the drinks. I just don't know how to do it actually. [sighs]...i know. the things gotta learn. :)

Why am I hungry???

Great pics!
