A Day of Black and White

I happened to glance up from work when I saw the most fantastic cloud formation. I took my cam and started shooting.

It was almost as if it was a scene from a movie where you could see the ominous clouds rolling towards the ocean.

For me, I wanted to emphasize the drama of the moment so I switched to black and white. The pictures I captured didn't disappoint. One could see how big these clouds were versus the images on the horizon. It looked like the heavens opened up.

I loved the way the white clouds appeared behind the darker rain clouds. My friends had a field day spotting 'faces' in the formations.

I took a pic of my friends who joined me in the balcony.

After an hour the clouds broke into light rain. Here you can see where the rain started to fall on the water.

These are the days when I love what I do and where I am.

Looks like they are full of rain.  How many inches do you usually get a month?

lol.....A LOT. It honestly depends on the month. We no longer measure rain by inches, it by feet. June - October is typhoon season. It is also the best time to go to the beach [in between typhoon breaks].

Wow! I love it! I agree with you in the fact that i do not believe color would have done it the justice that it deserves!

"Eagle"

Thanks eagle. :)

Spectacular!  The white clouds look like they do when you fly above them looking down.

They do? that's another image I wish to take - clouds while you're on a plane. :)

I posted some several years back that I took while I was on a flight.  I'll find the post tomorrow and give you the link.   On my way to bed as it is midnight here.

A very interesting post indeed. Great to have friends present, to share the delight with you. Black and white was a very wise choice for the topic. Finding a great variety of shapes in clouds is great fun. I enjoyed posting clouds on another blog site, a few years ago.

I hope you get to repost them here. I'd love to see them!

I will check for them using the archives and I'll certainly do my best to repost them here, especially for you Rica.

Now that is what I call a "benefit" to the job. What a wonderful view you have. I really love the second shot. Just incredible.

...and, seeing the rain begin over the water, very cool.

hahahahah... YES, one of the best benefits indeed!

Great pics, Rica.

Thanks bfd. :)

Awesome cloud pics, Rica!  And doing them in black and white was a great idea.

Thanks mamakat. :)

I love those B&W pictures sometimes. They can sometimes bring out more detail and depth than color, depending on the picture subject of the picture. I love picture number two!

I do agree with that. Actually I took the pics with the intention of using them as textures for my projects. It was after seeing them on my laptop that I realized how much detail you could see with a black and white pic.

Guess you are used to seeing that kind of cloud, I'd been hiding under my desk. LOL Beautiful photos.

LOL. thanks ana!

Using black and white creates such a realistic sense of the scene...nice shots!

I was thinking about that too.

There was a time when black and white was realistic. then came colored pics and black and white became 'artistic'. LOL. Now we have 3D photos as realistic so colored photos became artistic...and black and white photos became antique. LOL...

The clouds in the second shot are pretty cool.

Yes...and very big too. lol.
