THIS GUY CAME ACROSS AS A COOL AND DISTANT TO ME. BOY WAS I BIG-TIME WRONG!

>> On Romney's character....
>>
>>
>> Sometimes, this facet of Romney’s personality isn’t so subtle. In July 1996,
the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had
disappeared. She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on
ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.
Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30
partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney
set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective
firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips,
coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called
everyone Bain did business with in New York, and asked them to help find his
friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at  Price Waterhouse Cooper put
up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put
fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured
every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug
addicts – anyone.
>>
>>
>> That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl
and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in,
asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call
to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering
and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later
said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner
credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, “It was the most
amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.”
>>
>>
>> So, here’s my epiphany: Mitt Romney simply can’t help himself. He sees a
problem, and his mind immediately sets to work solving it, sometimes
consciously, and sometimes not-so-consciously. He doesn’t do it for
self-aggrandizement, or for personal gain. He does it because that’s just how
he’s wired.
>>
>>
>> Many people are unaware of the fact that when Romney was asked by his old
employer, Bill Bain, to come back to Bain & Company as CEO to rescue the firm
from bankruptcy, Romney left Bain Capital to work at Bain & Company for an
annual salary of one dollar. When Romney went to the rescue of the 2002 Salt
Lake Olympics, he accepted no salary for three years, and wouldn’t use an
expense account. He also accepted no salary as Governor of Massachusetts.

This was sent to me by a friend and just passing it on. I have no comments.  I liked Santorum but he is out of the picture. I will hold my nose and vote for any one other then Obama. He needs out before he completely destroys this country.

Hold nose...vote.

Yep.

Yes it does! Thank you so much for this. For those that doubt this...

I will hold my nose and vote, also.

Thank you RaggedyAnn! Let's have more of this sort of thing about all of our Presidential candidates. America has got to be better than the eviscerated sound bites and tortured opinions that substitute for an image of the real character of those running for office. Whoever wins the nomination, maybe we could find it easier to support them if we got to know the good things they've done with their lives, and not just the things we disagree with. You've reminded me that we always have hope! Five stars for you, and for America my friend!

Nice article but in my circle of family, friends and acquaintances (even Democrats)  I don't know a single one who would have done less under the same set of circumstances.  Granted, they do not have the power or money to do it on such a grand scale but will bust a gut to nonetheless do everything in their power.  We see people who are total strangers do it daily with no partnership or friendship involved.  Has Mitt ever done such a thing for the daughter of Joe Blow, the mechanic down the street?  That might impress me.  He did a good thing but he had a vested interest in that girl.  He is a very rich man, President Kennedy and I think George Washington didn't take a salary either.  It looks like Mitt will be our nominee but his "doing what 99 out of 100" would have done has zero influence on my vote or my opinion of him.

Kudos to him and the others who helped in this search.  While I'm not sure this alone would make me vote for him, it should get some publicity and let people see an instance of him doing the right thing.

Most of us in Michigan are aware of this.  He IS a Michigan boy.

Here's another story about him during his Bain times.  Domino Pizza (home: Ann Arbor) was struggling after it was sold by the original owner.  Bain "rescued " Domino's  Which was just over 1$ Billion/yr at the time.  They put a new president in and got the company well above $3Billion over a relatively short time due to major changes they made.  Domino's is now a public company and the president that Bain put in is now the Athletic Director at the University of Michigan.

Kudos to Romney!

" Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was.
Romney took immediate action. "

Although the post doesn't expressly say, the father AKSED for help, it is clear that Romney did give the father assistance, and made arrangements for others to join in helping.

ALL involved, who assisted without financial gain, speaks volumnes about their character, and are to be commended for their charitable actions. {#basic-smile.gif}

Below is some history on Ron Paul:

Ron Paul was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Gettysburg College and the Duke University School of Medicine, before proudly serving as a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force during the 1960s. He and his wife Carol moved to Texas in 1968, where he began his medical practice in Brazoria County. As a specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, Dr. Paul has delivered more than 4,000 babies. He and Carol, who reside in Lake Jackson, Texas, are the proud parents of five children and have 17 grandchildren.

While serving in Congress during the late 1970s and early 1980s, Dr. Paul’s limited-government ideals were not popular in Washington. In 1976, he was one of only four Republican congressmen to endorse Ronald Reagan for president.

In 1984, he voluntarily relinquished his House seat and returned to his medical practice.

Dr. Paul returned to Congress in 1997 to represent the 14th congressional district of Texas. He presently serves on the House Committee on Financial Services and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He continues to advocate a dramatic reduction in the size of the federal government and a return to constitutional principles.

Congressman Paul’s consistent voting record prompted one of his congressional colleagues to say, “Ron Paul personifies the Founding Fathers’ ideal of the citizen-statesman.

After earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from Duke University's School of Medicine in 1961, Paul relocated with his wife to Michigan, where he completed his medical internship at the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He then served as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1965 and then in the United States Air National Guard from 1965 to 1968.

In 1968, Paul and his wife relocated to Texas, where he continued his medical work. Trained in obstetrics and gynecology, Paul then began his own private practice. As a physician, Paul routinely lowered fees or worked for free and refused to accept Medicaid or Medicare payments. A 2002 newsletter of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons (AAPS) listed Paul as a member.

As a member of Congress, he continues to refuse to sign up for the government pension that he would be entitled to, in order to avoid receiving government money, saying it would be "hypocritical and immoral."

Dr. Paul just strikes me as someone of consistantly high integrity, at home, work, and in serving his country.
