The years end brings extremely cold weather to many parts of the country, as Atlanta residents are well aware.  All across the metro area, Atlantans are bracing for the cold weather.  The past week has seen severe cold resulting in broken and frozen plumbing pipes for many residents according the the Atlanta CBS news.

A number of apartment buildings experienced frozen water pipes resulting in the need for emergency plumbing repairs and water evacuation services.  Broken pipes are especially troublesome in apartments as ground floor units can get water running through the ceiling and the walls if the pipes break in an upper unit.

Below is one tenant's experience:

When Westerhold came home Tuesday night, his apartment was warm, but his floors were soaked.

"There was about 2 inches deep or so of water, seeping in on the bottom of the door," said Westerhold. The sprinkler valve on the fifth floor of the 1660 Peachtree Apartments broke because of cold weather, leaving water running down the walls and into Westerhold's home."Thousands of gallons that just dripped down, and most of the water came from the hallways, just dripping in. It eventually came through our fixtures, but a bulk of it was run off." said Westerhold.Apartments all over the metro Atlanta are had pipe problems Wednesday. The Riverwood Apartments in Roswell had frozen pipes burst throughout its property. About 13 units were effected by the leaks, and just like Westerhold's apartment, by Wednesday morning crews had cleaned up the mess."They sucked up the water, which is nice, they removed the pad from underneath the carpets and got two fans to dry everything out," Westerhold said.

Apartment managers gave their residents the following plumbing tips for winter of leaving the faucets dripping the the heater to a stable level.

While we in the gulf area of Texas don't have to worry about the extreme cold as some areas of the country do, temperatures can still get fairly chilly.  Taking proper precautions for protecting plumbing Kingwood is always a good idea.  It is better to be safe than sorry.
