Delirium
I could not put Delirium by Lauren Oliver down. This book was published in 2011, and is a great read. I can see why it might be challenged because it deals with controversial topics that may seem offensive to others. The main character Lena lives in a world where the government controls who she is supposed to love and marry down to what profession she will assume in the future. The government is successful with this through scare tactics as well as a medical procedure that alters the brain, so the brain does not feel or understand the comprehension of "Love." During Lena's whole life she was raised and taught that love was basically a disease that killed people if they were infected bad enough. She has also had to deal with the suicide of her mother, or so she thought. Turns out her mother was kept in the crypts which is a jail system for those who go against the government or any oftheir rules. Lena with the help of her boyfriend Alex learns her mother was in fact alive and had dug her way to the wilds escaping the crypts and the government. Alex in turn dies to save Lena, but she makes it safe to the wilds. She also learns that even though she is a normal average size teenager, she is truly someone special. Lena is a legend :)
