I’ll Take Laughing Over Loathing
Laughter has always been an easy way to cheer someone up from a terrible day. If was tragic what happened September 11, 2001. Lives were lost, family members were never seen again. Americans were sad for a long time. No one was happy, Americans were full of hatred we wanted to get make those responsible feel the same way we felt. We wanted revenge……and we got it but at what price. No one ever wins when it comes to war.
As far as I can remember there have always been races, religion, cultural traditions and many other things that make people different from each other. These differences lead people to believe that other races are better because of the way they are. Everyone wants to think that there race is the best, I personally did not know what to think until recently. I was talking to my roommate about the topic of ethnocentrism. I remember she told me, “My dad doesn’t have a favorite race he thinks they are all flawed, so there is no such thing as a perfect or superior race.” I remember thinking to myself I never thought of itthatway, her dad had a good point.
From that moment my belief changed to what her father also believed. No one is perfect so why not just except people for who they are as individuals instead of connecting them with stereotypes. Maz Jobrani a standup comedian (who is Persian), make fun of his own culture. I think pointing out other cultures common behavior in a humorous manor help other people see they in a new way. Just because someone is Persian does not make them a terrorists.

It was 2001, not 2011.
