I really like both of them....I chose one of them because Neither implies that I dont like either.  But I guess Harry Potter is my fav of the two....but hard to say.

Definitely The Hunger Games. While Harry Potter drew kids in with the story line, I found the Good vs Evil theme a little too simplistic.

The Hunger Games series was more than just entertainment.  The themes were confronting and and far more thought provoking.  Good literature should challenge kids to actually think... not simply offer a means of escape.

That's not to say escapism doesn't have its place, but I see kids today too passive in the way they just want to lie back and be entertained rather than thoughtfully engaged.
