MATERIALS: 1 50g/1.75 oz ball worsted weight cotton yarn
1 pair 4.5mm/7 US needles
1 row counter
1 size 4 crochet hook
1 darning needle
Size: 24cm/9.5 in X 24cm/9.5 in
TENSION: 20 sts & 26 rows in St. St. with 4.5mm/7 US needles = 10 cm/4 inches
Bottom Border -
Cast on 31 stitches.
Rows 1- 6: Work in seed stitch increasing 1 stitch at each end of row. (41 sts)
Side Borders -
Row 7: Increase 1 st. Seed stitch on first 4 sts. Knit to last 3 sts. Seed stitch on last 3 sts. Increase 1 st. (43 sts)
Row 8: Increase 1 st. Seed stitch on first 4 sts. Purl to last 3 sts. Seed stitch on last 3 sts. Increase 1 st. (45 sts)
Continue working the first and last 4 sts in seed stitch while working the centre 37 sts thus-
Row 9: K2, (yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k7) 3 times, yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k2.
Row 10 and all even rows: Purl.
Row 11: (K2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso, k3) 3 times, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso.
Row 13: K2, (yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k7) 3 times, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso.
Row 15: Knit.
Row 17: K7, (yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k7) 3 times.
Row 19: K5, (k2tog, yo, k3, yo, sl1, k1, psso,k3) 3 times, k2.
Row 21: K7, (yo, sl1, k2tog, psso, yo, k7) 3 times.
Row 23: Knit.
Row 24: Purl.
Repeat rows 9 - 24 3 times.
Top Border –
Rows 1 - 6: Work in seed stitch decreasing 1 stitch at each end of row. (33 sts)
Row 7: Seed stitch across row, casting off the centre 9 sts.
Working on right side of bib, k2tog at outside edge every row and k2tog at neck edge every other row until 1 st remains. Transfer stitch to crochet hook and crochet single chain tie for 30.5cm/12 inches. Cut yarn and work left side to correspond to right side.
Optional: Crochet single chain around bib for a finished edge.
