I have lost weight, gained, lost, gained and lost and gained all of my life.  I know I need to take off the weight.  It is just going to take time and commitment on my part.  I know there is a lot of support out there an programs too. I am an emotional eater for sure. I eat for the same reasons I drank, smoked, etc.  The difference is, I have to eat to live. I don't have to smoke or drink to live, in fact they will kill me.  I really have to WANT TO LOSE IT.  I will keep you all posted on my progress.

Join a Weight Watcher group--I don't want to go into the whole thing as I have blogged about it m,any times including a 9 part series about fighting fat but it is like drinking--you NEED a support group--has nothing to do with 'will power'.

Also you might want to check out  sparkpeople.com  an interesting site for help with losing weight.

I know I need a support group for sure.  I also know that until I make a commitment to do it, it will not happen.

IMHO, I don't think you should look at it as wanting/needing to lose weight. I'm sure you have figured out how to lose weight and know how to gain it back again. I think you are in need of a lifestyle change instead.  Doing the things every day that will make healthy and keep the weight off for the rest of your life.  As a result the pounds will come off over time and you will have set a path to keep it off.  Yes, it does take self discipline but if it is really important to you then you will do it.  I set aside one meal a week where I get to eat something that isn't very healthy and has a lot of calories.  I limit the portion size but it eliminates the craving for certain foods I really like.

The other thing is exercise.  Not only cardio exercise but some weight training to go with it.  You want to have some muscle mass to help burn off the calories.  You should do some sort of exercise every day for at least 30 minutes.

greatmartin used to work for Weight Watchers so I can see why he made the suggestions he did here.  It does work for some people but the bottom line is that you need to make it happen so do whatever you feel you need to do in order for that to become a reality.  Good luck.

Thank you for your reply.  Limiting portion size is a great idea and others have said the ame thing.  I also agree that when it is really important, I will do it.  Yep, Weight Watchers does work for some but until I am committed and make the decision, it will not happen for me.  I know this from experience.  I still believe in the support group idea too but they cannot be there 24/7 for me any more then A.A. could have been there for me 24/7.  It is up to me in the end. Thank you for the support.
