I want to share something beautiful with you........and other bits and pieces.

Added: Friday, October 11th 2019 at 12:18am by Maria

Friday is nearly over here in Perth and the weekend looks awesome!!

Once again I will be moving into a friend's place to do a weekend of cat sitting which I always enjoy and I get paid a little bit of money for it so I will have some more spending money for my trip to Vietnam in a couple of weeks time!!

Yesterday I tried my hand at making something Filipino for the very first time, a sweet treat I used to love as a kid when we lived in the Philippines.

Steamed Rice cakes we call Puto.

I made the batter out of rice flour, sugar, coconut milk and baking powder.

I flavored some of it with purple yam extract...

and some with pandan extract....

Placed them all in a steamer basket......

and steamed them over a pot of rapidly boiling water for 20 minutes....

and they came out pretty good for a first timer!!!  Fluffy, soft and lovely flavors of coconut, pandan and ube (purple yam).

When I come back from my trip I need to find someone who can build me one of these in my barbecue area at the back, it's a fire pit and I love the look of it.

It's just a heap of old landscaping pavers stacked together but looks amazing.  Shouldnt be too difficult, I might even try doing it myself!!

Well when I got nothing else to post about, this is what you get....lol.

Oh and by the way, I found this old photo in a desk drawer I have not opened for years.

It was with my hubby's papers and stuff I havent sorted through, I didnt even know he had it and I have no idea when it was taken.

How about guessing how old I am in this photo???

and one last thing......................

Beautifull indeed...such bright vibrant colors!!!!!

oops, you missed the rest of the post....lol.

now, tell me, did I really miss it or did you update the post,,,LOL

Either ways thanks for letting me know.

I posted the picture first and then added the rest of the blog after....{#basic-laugh.gif}

oooooo, all those colors...

What does cat sitting entail? {#popc1.gif}Watching movies while the cat snubs you? {#popc1.gif}{#rofl.gif}

I'd prefer just calling them steamed rice cakes... the look interesting. Puto is a derogatory term in Spanish and Italian.

That's the best looking fire pit EVER!!!

Your age in that photo? Hmmmmm, 27?

Cat sitting is fun because I get to hang out with fur babies that I dont have at home and I just binge-watch stuff on Netflix while they curl up on the couch beside me...{#basic-laugh.gif}

That word is in Tagalog which is the official language of the Philippines. I didnt realise it was a derogatory term in Spanish and Italian, I thought the derogatory word ends with an A not an O and it means "whore".

I love that firepit, they've become really trendy in Australia lately and more and more people are getting them in their backyards and I want one!!  Great for keeping warm in winter and for toasting marshmallows!!!!

You were close in your guess of my age, somewhere around 30....{#basic-laugh.gif}

Well, lucky you... to have them curl up beside you. My cat was a feral kitten that I brought in from the cold a few falls ago. She gets nervous when I pick her up... she loves to be petted, but not the confinement of being held.

In spanish word puto is a male prostitute... in Italian, The word puto literally translates as "man-whore". I worked with Mexicans when I lived in California.

Ahhh, there's nothing better in chilly/cold weather than a fire pit or a bonfire... but in a neighborhood with close neighbors, a fire pit is the way to go. Just sitting there watching the fire... it's mesmerizing and so comforting.

Aw heck, you like like a teenager in that photo.

My father is Spanish and we spoke Spanish at home and I knew from a very young age that word for a female whore is puta but I didnt know that the male version of it is puto.....lol.  In the Philippines puto is a very popular and common street food and vendors with carts used to go down the street calling out that word so people would come out and buy fresh puto from the carts.  If only people realised the vendor was using profanity....{#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif}

I love watching fire too, in fireplaces or campfires and now I will (hopefully) get to watch the flames dancing around in my firepit if/when it gets built!!

I've got photos of myself as a teenager and I promise you that is not how I looked in my teens....{#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} {#rofl.gif} ......but thanks for the compliment anyway..{#basic-kiss.gif}

...can't wait for your "My Teen Years" blog. {#popc1.gif}

I've already posted my life story including my teen years in these pages, I've been here ten years and I think I did it way back in the first or second year. I've got lots of my personal stories in the archives here so I am not looking forward to blogster coming to an end any time soon.

You need to invest in like a 5TB hard drive and download everything while you still can.

nah, at the end of the day it will be a waste of time because nobody else will ever read those articles again. As a matter of fact I havent gone back to read them myself so I might as well not have written or posted them at all.

I like the pastel colors!!  I'll bet they were good also, especially the coconut. I'm a coconut freak!

That fire pit is THEE best. I've never seen one like that but its certainly attractive.

I'm so NOT good with age, but I'd say either your late 20s or early 30s?

I love coconut too!! The rice cakes turned out nice considering it was a first attempt..{#basic-laugh.gif}

Firepits have become trendy here in Australia, this one is one of the nicest I've seen.

You are right, late 20's or early 30's. Just not sure what year it was taken...{#basic-laugh.gif}

Love the look of those rice cakes.  You do make the tastiest things.

Really like the firepit.  Would love one of those in my garden for barbeques.

You look great in that pic.  l would say you could be early 30's maybe.

They turned out really nice considering it was my first attempt, and they were tasty just like I remember them from when I was a kid.

Those firepits have become trendy here in Australia. They are great in the winter time when you want to hang out in your backyard, they can keep you warm and are great for toasting marshmallows!!!

You are spot on with your guess, I was in my late 20's or very early 30's, just not sure what year it was taken. Thank you JB!!!..{#basic-laugh.gif}

Toasting marshmallows ..now your talking lol.

{#high_five.gif} {#yummy.gif} {#yummy.gif}

Pictures were great Maria, and so were the pictures of the rice cakes. I think by the looks of the picture of you about 40? Bro. Doc

The rice cakes turned out quite nice and tasty Bro Doc.  As for that pic of me, I was in my late 20's or early 30's I think.

Glad they turned out well. Sorry I got the age so wrong. Bro. Doc

oh it's not a problem at all Bro Doc.  These days 40 is the new 30....lol.

Ok if you say so Maria. Bro. Doc

Rice looks so good

Pic  ummmm............. I would say in twenties.

late 20's, early 30's Wendi and yes the rice cakes turned out quite nice....{#basic-laugh.gif}

They look so yummy!  I love the picture!  And the picture of you?  I bet you were still somewhere in your twenties.  Love that picture too, lol!

yes, that photo was taken in the 80's so I was indeed in my late 20's or early 30's. Thank you Miss Ellie.

O' I love seeing the old photos-how beautiful! The food looks good. Purple Yam-hmm sounds yummy. Glad the cat sitting will give ya some extra funds for your trip. Hope you are doing well.

doing great and getting excited for my trip, I leave on Tuesday next week!!...{#basic-laugh.gif}

awesome on both. Can't wait to hear about your next adventures. Hope the weather is wonderful & you have a safe and fun one. :)

Thank you so much...{#giveflowers.gif}

I dislike puto. Too bland. We went to the sari sari store last weekend. I bought Ube Hopia.

it is too bland on it's own, I found that too.  But I flavor mine with ube and pandan extract and add a little more sugar and it's delicious.  I also have it with freshly grated coconut which I really love which makes it a lot more enjoyable. I am going to try making kucinta next, another one that I used to really enjoy as a child in the Philippines.  We have hopia here but only plain, I dont think I've ever tried the ube one, might have to try it next time I go back to the Philippines.  I wish we had a sari sari store here.
