Bucket List Trip 2019 - Canada - Victoria - Butchart Gardens Pt.1

Added: Wednesday, September 11th 2019 at 7:49am by Maria

Our first stop after arriving at the ferry terminal in Victoria was Butchart Gardens.

We spent almost 3 hours there and it was breath-taking. Even the gloomy weather didnt detract from the beauty of this place.  Sunshine would have made for much more stunning photos of course but it didnt really matter that much any more.

I took heaps and had to pick through and choose which ones to post here so here goes:

The entrance....

dont see too many of these wooden water wheels...

Lots of rest areas....

a giant chess board...

Spring is the best time to see this place, all the beautiful spring flowers on display...

I love hanging baskets and these ones were gorgeous!!

I love trees with different color foliage, this very light green one is stunning....

lots of unusual plants I havent seen before....

shady walkways leading to other areas of the gardens...

gorgeous ferns, looking so lush and healthy....

looking down at a beautiful garden....

with amazingly artistic displays....

there's a beautiful dancing fountain......

I love the red foliage....

Stairs leading up to a look-out station overlooking the gardens below...

just stunning!!

look at the gorgeous white flowers on this tree....

cute bears.....

stunning fountain....

the start of the Japanese gardens display...

these steps are different to the previous one, this one is in the Japanese Garden.

restaurant, coffee shop, gift shop.....

Gift shop, souvenirs, jams and jellies and honey and nuts.......

They have a very beautiful and very large gift store with lots of very EXPENSIVE merchandise so I just bought this little fridge magnet as a souvenir of my visit.

Supposed to be real flowers encased in perspex and framed (very crudely) in copper. It was the cheapest thing I could find...lol.

The restaurant called The Blue Poppy was nice but judging by the lack of customers, I would say it was not cheap either...

It did have a lovely little atrium attached....

the outdoor cafe was cheaper and you can sit in the benches provided and admire the animal statues...

(to be continued....)

I am glad Maria, that you got too see this. It was many years ago that I saw it, but I do remember this very well. There are pictures around here when my parents my sister and I went too see it. Bro. Doc

It's nice to have pictures you can look back on, this place is very special and I am really glad I paid the $200.00 to do this excursion.

It was well worth the price. If I didn't have to have a passport too go to Canada, and pay the high fees for the picture and passport I would visit again. I believe now it is up too 150 dollars for everything. And since I never travel outside of the USA I can't see paying that price. I can view pictures and video's of these places. Bro. Doc

We spent about 5 or 6 hours there the last time we were there. I could have easily spent that amount of time again a second day. I also took hundreds of photos. It is a stunningly beautiful place.

I wouldnt have minded staying longer but the weather wasnt really that pleasant and got worse as the day wore on so maybe next time I will come back at the beginning of summer.  I took literally hundreds of photos too and it was difficult choosing which ones to post.

Stunning absolutely stunning.  The colours are amazing.  Just imagine the work that must go into making it all so very beautiful.

I thought the Kensington Palace Gardens and also the Buckingham Palace ones were just glorious but this one really is a cut above. I cant even imagine how much work and expense would go into maintaining it.

OH my goodness, just beautiful really beautiful.

Paradise for people who love flowers and gardening and trees, it is spectacular.

Love all the greenery, and that giant chess board fasinates me.

it's a very beautiful place and it's HUGE!!!!!!
