Hawk takes flight

Sitting out on the back porch on a cold and cloudy day I see this guy hanging out on the telephone pole.

I am watching him through the camera view finder and see him puff up.

He turns

Streamlines his body and lifts his wings

then takes off

What an awsome sight.

P.S. click on the stars and watch them say "thank you"

:) Yes queenie, they are!!! I missed them a lot. Hopefully they will show up more and more as the  days go on, they are so cool to watch. Thanks for your visit and comment. Have a great night.

They are so fast, I often see them swoop by low..ready to pounce on their prey.

Good shots. Thank you for sharing.

I did some hawk posts last year where a mocking bird was chasing them and one where they were fighting over food... So cool to watch. They like landing on the electric poles around here. Good vantage points to look for things to swoop down on. thanks for your comment, complement and for stopping by.

love the shots.  beautiful!  i have hawks all over the place out here in the country.  i hear them before seeing them.  this morning i saw 2 almost air dancing...gliding effortlessly and gracefully...i look forward to them this time every year.

Thank you BeverlyD, I am glad you enjoyed the photos. They are cool birds to watch. I like the way they find their way into the thermals and sail way up into the sky until they become just a tiny dot.

Thanks for your visit and comment. Hope you have a nice evening.

These are some really great shots!  Patience was rewarding!!  {#thanks.gif}

Thank you Kat-Al, I was afraid if I looked away, he would fly away and I would miss it... I am so glad I had my camera with the zoom. The sky was pretty dark with clouds, I had no idea if the photos would turn out at all. I figured it would be too dark, but... they are OK, no national geographic but hey cool in their own way. Thanks so much for your comment and visit. Take care.

Wow! Now that is awesome. I don't think I have ever seen one in real life, just on tv.

Thank you blogmom. I am lucky to live in a neighborhood that has a hawk family come and stay in some giant trees someone planted in their yard years ago. Also living in a desert area the hawks have lots of little critters to eat. I always think it is so cool when I get to see the hawks. They are just amazing to watch. Thanks for your visit and comment. Hope you get to see some hawks someday in your travels. Have a nice evening.

Very Cool

Very, very cool photos.

And you're cracking me up with the star comments.

LOL thanks. I have no idea what the stars are for, I just like to see them all lite up. Thanks for your complement on the photos. Glad I could share them with you. Have a great day!

Fabulous Mar~your sequence of this magnificent bird in action is simply WONDERFUL ~{#apploud.gif}{#apploud.gif}{#apploud.gif}

Thank you so much AwakinOregon, I was so lucky to see it and so greatful I could share it. Hawks are amazing birds to watch. I am lucky to live in an area where I can see them. Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment.

Yes, we get these awesome birds in Oregon too.  I had one fly right next to my car window literally all the way down a hill one day.  I was so in awe I almost lost control of the car.  Needless to say I have been in awe of them ever since.  I must admit though I like it when my crows chase them away from the backyard, for they often come hunting for my baby squirrels and such.  They of course ignore me when I try to chase them off.  Nature is wonderful and I understand they do have to eat but I'm not good with watching sometimes...especially when they are after the little birds I feed or my adorable baby squirrels.  Perspective is not always easy.

Oh my gosh... that must have been amazing to see, right next to your car... wow!

I have always wanted to see eagles in the wild. I have seen them in captivity and am so amazed at how very large they are.

In a way it is sad to know birds of prey eat our little baby critters but then again if they did not... the baby critters would grow up and take over everything. So nature has a balance if we are brave enough to leave it alone.

I would also like to get some really cool detailed photos of buzzards catching thermals.. watching them is amazing too.

I have to say I love nature, I find it so incredible beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

That seems to be a productive pole for raptor activity, that's another great sequence.  I would call this one a Cooper's Hawk.

Thank you. There are quite a few raptors in the area, and a few poles as well. They seem to like the poles for the views. They also love a tree down the street from us. Thanks so much for sharing your info on the hawk, and for taking the time to visit here.

I have some other posts here (I am guessing they are not all hawks)
