Another Snake
We saw another snake this weekend. He was hiding out near the porch, when my huband went out the snake took off and hid in these bricks.
He was completely black, very dark.
Ah but round pupils means... not poisonous.
I think he might be one of these king snakes but I am not snake expert.

Edit: adding photos here so snake knowers can see his head.
I like the tongue shot.

As of the moment...things are a bit settling down on my end of the world. I'll try to be more active on blogster again. [smiles] |
I think that "eye" thing is a great piece of information!!! Just as long as I can remember which is which when I'm staring one down face to face..LOL...great picture. |
You are probably right. I was just guessing, looking up black snake Arizona. This site is cool because it goes by pattern and color of the skin. http://www.reptilesofaz.org/herp-snakes.html There were other black snakes on there so I could be totally wrong. Or it could be someone's pet snake escaped. I will have to go look for black rat snake and see what they look like, and if they are native here. Thanks for the snake ID. |
I think trace is correct, that's a rat snake. VERY beneficial to have around, and harmless to humans. |
Rats, I was thinking maybe he was this coach snake. http://www.reptilesofaz.org/Snakes-Subpages/h-c-flagellum.html Well you all know snakes not me. I just think they are cool looking. He was so not interested in us seeing him. He really wanted us to just go away.:) We did and he took off somewhere. |
Hey good to know. This is the second snake we have seen in the yard this year. The other one was not black. Here is the other one incase you missed it http://www.blogster.com/margar3t/something-we-almost-never-see |
Not very cuddly...but everything that's good is not necessarily appealing. So, what's his name? You do need to try to keep him around and I really want to know if he eats scorpions.
|
I forgot to ask him what his name was. :) It would be cool to see him again. We don't often see snakes. This must be a good year for snakes because this is the second one we have seen in the yard this year. The other one looked different, it was not black, you can see him here if you want http://www.blogster.com/margar3t/something-we-almost-never-see He was cool looking. |
:) good to know, he seemed way more afraid of us than we were of him. I have no idea where he went but he is not in the flower bed anymore. |
They like to hang out at your house don't they? LOL! I remember seeing quite a few snakes when I was a kid growing up in southern NM. Cool pictures!:) Jenn |
Thanks, This is the second snake we have seen this year. We don't usually see them. He is pretty. He was so not as into seeing us as we were into seeing him. He is long gone now. |
I bet he wasn't they will usually hide or attack depending if they feel cornered and what kind they are. |
I know, it was quite a surprise. We don't often see snakes and I have never seen a jet black one like this before, very cool |
