OK, so if being seen in my yucky van didn't convince me that people are watching me, what happened yesterday certainly would.

I ran into my son's best friend.  He doesn't live here anymore.  He was here helping his dad with a siding job.  Work is hard to get these days so you have to be willing to travel.  I told him I had some things he could do at my house if he wanted the work.

He came over to take a look at the job.  We visited for quite awhile.  He went on and on about how much he looked up to us when he was a kid.  He mentioned several things we had done, particularly having to do with working hard on our house, trying to keep our family together (sometimes seemingly unsuccessfully), and pursuing our goals.  Now that he has a family of his own, those things mean a lot to him.  He kept thanking me over and over!

I really didn't think he had much to thank me for.  We weren't that great!  he should know that.  I was never unkind to him, but I never paid any special attention to him either.  We were just going along, living life, surviving the best we could, doing what we do.

I guess while he was hanging out with my son he was also watching, paying close attention, taking mental notes... trying to figure out what adults do... what parents do.  He mentioned many positive things that we did for our family that made an impression.  He said he wants to do the same for his family.

It sure is nice to hear that we did some things right!  At least in one person's eyes...

                            I didn't know...

                                              ...I was being watched!

Like a hawk!  They're everywhere!  It is interesting to get some positive feedback, though, isn't it?  You must be doing something right.

Yes, they are everywhere... eyes that look like they don't see, but they do!  Glad he liked what he saw.  Positive feedback is great!

that is just fantastic! it is amazing how we influence people that we are not even aware of. great job!!!

Thanks!  I was thinking of you when I wrote this.  I'll bet there are some folks who've been paying attention to you that you might not have known about.

aww thanks maggie! {#giveflowers.gif}

Yes, we as parents/adults are always under scrutiny from the little ones around us and we never know how much they absorb...setting a fine example is the best we can do!

So true!  You know what they say... there are three ways to teach your children.  The first is by example... the second... is by example... and the third is... you guessed it... by example!  Intimidating, huh!

That is the reason that we need to live a Godly life. We may the only Bible some people read.

So true!  Gonna be that much more aware from now on!

Little eyes and ears...you never know what/when they're watching and listening.  It's great that you were able to present a positive message to him, even though you weren't aware of it at the time.

I think he should get equal credit for taking the positives... when I'm sure there were some negatives as well.  But that's the kind of person he is.

The things we do that influence people are the everyday things done in love. I am SO proud of you and your hubby!

What a wonderful young man.  How refreshing to find someone like that.  Just when we think that most of the young is somehow off-track.

I know what you mean!  I'm so proud of him!  He's pretty amazing.
