The Insignificance of Humans

You humans seem to think that you're special, and I haven't quite figured out why that is. Just from my observations you all appear the same while shouting from the rooftops that you're different. You don't listen to others because you're obsessed with being right. You're consumed by popular culture, fast food, imperialism, and greed. You have this obsession with wanting to gain riches when none of it can be taken with you when you meet your unavoidable deaths.

Humans don't learn from their mistakes. You think the world revolves around you. You exist for your own "individuality", but in reality you are just a species walking towards your own extinction by putting maximum effort in avoiding that, knowing it’s unavoidable. You are always seeking to fulfill your desires, but again you are met with obstacles for the same, and even if you do meet them, your desires change or increase, they are rarely satisfied. Your goal for satisfaction is rarely fulfilled ending only with death.

"Time is infinite, but the things in time, the concrete bodies, are finite. They may indeed disperse into the smallest particles; but these particles, the atoms, have their determinate numbers, and the numbers of the configurations which, all of themselves, are formed out of them is also determinate. Now, however long a time may pass, according to the eternal laws governing the combinations of this eternal play of repetition, all configurations which have previously existed on this earth must yet meet, attract, repulse, kiss, and corrupt each other again." -Heinrich Heine

And again, and again, and again...

Am a close cousin of "the baboon" myself. You, LW?

We really haven't been out of the trees that long. Smart apes is all we are. And lucky enough to have opposable thumbs. So we fight our primal desires and curb our basic instincts. And that takes a lot of effort.

I wouldn't go so far as to calling humans smart apes. You figured out how to kill a lot of people more efficiently. I'd liken humans to a virus that wears shoes more than anything.

That's why we're smarter than the average chimp. Know another kind of chimp that can do what we do?

A virus can wipe out quite a few of you with ease so I wouldn't go patting yourselves on the back just yet. Personally, I'm rooting for the virus.

We're smarter because we've figured out how to kill each other?  Sounds pretty stupid to me.

Clever monkeys, perhaps.  Mostly because of the tool thing.

Whether you think it's "stupid" or not, it takes brains to figure things out.

Big difference between 'clever' and 'smart' though.  We're clever enough to do it, but not smart enough to figure out why we shouldn't.
