Hello to all and welcome to my new blog. I’m a catcher not a blogger so I’m not sure how well I am going to do this but I am going to try. I thought I would start by putting in some things about me and my life. I didn’t write this, which is why it always mentions my name but it is the best and most succinct bio I have.

Obviously I love baseball and feel very, very fortunate that I have been able to spend my whole life doing what I love. And I am even more grateful that I have gotten good enough to be able to play in the big leagues and on the New York Yankees, the best team in baseball history. (Sorry to those fans of other teams but I love my team).

I hope you enjoy it.

Jorge

Jorge Rafael De Posada was born on August 17,1971 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. From a very young age, Jorge Posada showed a tremendous aptitude for sports and particularly for baseball. He attended the Alejandrino High School in San Juan, where he participated in basketball, volleyball, track, and baseball. As a baseball player in high school, he was named an All-Star player in the 1988-1989 season.

‘He went on to attend Calhoun Community College in Decatur, Alabama, where he received an Associate Degree. At Calhoun College, Jorge continued to develop his skills and was voted best hitter in 1990. A year later, he was named co-captain of the team, in addition to being selected to the All-Conference team. Jorge was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1991, where he began his professional career with the Oneonta Yankees, making his major league debut on September 4, 1995. In the year 2000, he became the starting catcher for the Yankees, a position that he has held ever since.

‘In 1999, Jorge married Laura Posada, an attorney from Puerto Rico. The couple has two children, Jorge Luis (age eight) and Paulina (age five). Just ten days after birth, Jorge Luis was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis, a congenital birth defect characterized by the premature closure of the bones in the skull, and has endured numerous surgeries to correct the condition. As a result, in the fall of 2000, the Posada family created The Jorge Posada Foundation to promote awareness about Craniosynostosis and provide emotional assistance to families with children affected by this condition through its Mentors Program. The organization provides grants to a number of partner medical centers to help underwriteaportion of the costsof initial surgeriesandencourages further research of this medical condition. TheFoundation also strives to create awareness through events and through funding other educational outreach efforts.

Jorge has received a number of awards on and off the field. In 2000, he received the Thurman Munson Award for his baseball accomplishments and philanthropic work in New York. From 2000 to 2003 he was awarded the Silver Slugger Award. He received the 2001 Milton Richman “You Gotta’ Have Heart” Award by the New York Chapter of the BBWAA. He was also named one of the Diamond Dad’s Founding Fathers in 2003 and was nominated for a Roberto Clemente Award in 2005 and in 2007 was named one of the finalists. More recently, Jorge received the 2007 Bart Giamatti “Caring” Award from MLB’s Baseball Assistance Team. Jorge was also honored with the 2006 Mentor of the Year Award from Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc.andFashion Delivers, and both Jorge and Laurafurtherreceived the 2006 PuertoRican Family Foundation Excellence Award for their commitment tochildren, especially those affected by Craniosynostosis.

‘Professionally, Jorge is currently enjoying the best years of his career. He is a four time World Champion – 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000. In 2003 he tied Yogi Berra’s record for most home runs by a Yankee catcher (30), and ranked third in the American League Most Valuable Player selection. In 2004, Jorge was one of the team’s leaders in home runs and RBIs, as well as being among the top of the list of the best American League baseball players. He is the first Yankee to make six straight Opening-Day starts at catcher since Thurman Munson made 10 straight from 1970-79. In 2005, he recorded his 1,000th career hit with a seventh-inning double in 8/20 win at Chicago.’

I hope you found this entertaining and that you got to know more about me.

Take care,

Jorge

Hello.  I am an advid baseball fan and have been since I knew what a baseball is.  I am not sorry to say I have been a Detroit Tiger fan since then.

Now, I do wish by beat all of the Central Division teams, except the Tigers.

Best wishes to you.

Hello JP,

I am a Mets' fan but i agree with you. The Yankees are the most respectable team for sure if not the most exciting one....

Hey ... there is no way that you guys on the Yankees can be sooo foolish and at the same time sooo amazing like the Mets ... it is not easy to be foolish and smart at the same time... it takes special talent ...

anyway, if there are any Yankee that i really like it is You, Jeter, and petite.... and Berny of course ...

Sorry that you guys lost tonight to the guys from Philadelphia ( i hope they just disappear).... i am sure that you guys did not make as many errors as the Mets did playing with the Red Sox ... but they won ... imagine that ... I told you it takes special talent to be a fool and smart at the same time :-).

Jorge!  A belated welcome to blogster and more importantly glad you are back in great shape this year!!!

I have been a yankee fan my whole 53 years of life - although I live in NC now, I grew up in Ridgewood NJ and my dad had box seats along the third baseline and we went a lot!!!

As a result my children have grown up to love the Yankees as well, and I picked a good time to "sell my team" as they grew up during the 90's!!!

I even have gotten my southern husband away from the braves (sorta) to root for all of you!!!

We made the trip to the cathedral last year, one last time on old timers day - Aug.2nd - what a great and highly emotional day for me - so many memories of my life with dad (he is gone now), as well as my many baseball heros!

As you see from my picture here, I love and miss Bernie Boy - but he is only one of many - and I am so glad you are back!!  It was not the same without you last year - you have such skill, but more importantly your character shines!!!  It is so important these days!

So - welcome again - tell Laura I will check out the book - sounds interesting - projects done from life experiences usually are -

hope to talk to you again - can't believe I am talking to you!

Kelly
