My Immigration plan.
First, the borders must be secured. If not, no plan will work.
The border guards should be increased and rotated on a schedule.
We should install physical fence where possible and virtual fence in areas where a fence is not possible, like across rivers.
While the borders are being secured, we call a six months to a year moratorium on new applications for visas and citizenship.
During that time, we clear the backlog of applicants already waiting. This is only fair and right.
We also use this time to upgrade the ICE and INS systems, train counselors and administration employees.
Once this phase is complete we call a mandatory registration for all illegals. Mandatory and without prosecution during registration and wait time. This should be for a period of no more than six months. That is plenty of time to get to the registry office. We can issue the registrants their own IDs with a pending status. This will be good for one year from date of issue. A worker tax Id number can be issued that will allow the applicant to legally work while going through the process. We also fingerprint, photograph and DNA swab the applicant. This also cuts ID theft dramatically immediately.
Next, we background and run criminal checks on the applicants. Those with criminal background ,gang involvement, (Thanks Helen), terrorist connections, drug or alcohol abuse, violence or child abuse cases that were substantiated in court are immediately disqualified and deported. No exceptions. No excuses.
Then we check to see if the applicant desires citizenship. If they say no, they are immediately deported. Again, no excuses. No exceptions. This process should take no more than the year the applicant's pending status is.
Those who pass those two hurdles have a year to learn basic English, American History and establish themselves in the communities. This includes residence, jobs or procur an income if elderly or disabled.
All able bodied males will be required to register for selective Service as the rest of the country must, as well. Women can also enlist on pending status. They will not be sent to combat until they are screened and swear allegiance to USA. Military enlistment could fastrack citizenship. (I'll have to think about that more).
Once all requirements are met, they can then become citizens and stay.
My plan will eliminate riff-raff, criminals, terrorists and undesirables. That will deport a sizable number of illegals.
There also need to be consequence for those who do not register.
If after the registration period has passed and someone is caught unregistered, imprison them, until they are deported.
If the requirements on English, history, residency and income are not completed in the year pending status, one extension of six months only. After that, deportation. Of course there can be exceptions on this for those who are elderly, handicapped or learning disabled.
I also think border tours might not be a bad idea for the National Guards in training.
We have to come up with a plan before no plan is possible.
We have to secure our country and we need to make sure we can accomodate all who live here.
We have to be civilized in our approach.
I know this plan is not perfect, but it can be tweaked until it is perfact.
Earned citizenship instead of blanket amnesty.

We can sort them and get rid of undesirables. We can get rid of hundreds of thousands at once, who either don't qualify for the plan or choose not to. We can be compassionate yet firm. We can have our borders secured. |

Obviously a lot of thought went into this plan joanne...no wonder its an EXCELLENT solution to the problem. i can't see where it needs to be tweeked... its got my vote! |

What makes you feel so entitled? What is white? What is an American? This land was taken over, not one, no one is a native. Every Indian who lived here was shot and this land was a take over. What is the American history, but one of bloody wars of land conquests. This country was built on immigrants. Too bad the Indians were the real humans in nature, and the real savages were people like you all. I really wish the history of America was rewritten and it read.... Thanksgiving! Indians shoot every Anglo bastard on sight! I see your plan and basically this is nothing new, but to once again run people off at whatever cost. Everyone has the right to work hard, earn and fight to be an American, if that is of any value nowadays. I guess this is why this country is in the condition it is. The human element, value and gene are missing from most Americans and it’s an all about me and the haves with your greed kind of country. It’s funny how our pride serves for nothing in the face of the world right now. So sad!

My plan is an attempt at an equitable solution to an out of control problem. We have laws and a right to sovereignty. Every other country in the world controls their borders and immigration. I have no problem withn legal immigrants. As a matter of fact, my plan will legalize deserving and loyal immigrants. Our society has a right to live freely and free from crime. We have to deal with our own American criminals. Why should we deal with criminals from other countries? I think my plan is a best case possible one. It allows a chance at freedom. It allows immigrants to come out of the shadows and have their own identity. It takes away the fear of ICE raids in the middle of the night. This plan will keep families together. It will help the immigrants to get better jobs where they won't have to work for below minimum. it will keep people from victimizing and blackmailing immigrants. This plan also helps our country. it will decrease the welfare rolls. It will decrease identity theft. It will get rid of riff raff. It will secure our borders and stem the tide of illegal crossings. It will empower local law enforcement with tools and the back up of the people. It will decrease the flow of drugs and weapons, with a secure border. If this is not what they want, what are they doing here?

Amen, I totally agree with you JoAnne! We do have our own criminals here. We do not want or need other countries criminals. Our prisons are over flowing now, we do not need more criminals....Also, it is a proven fact that when gun control is in effect, there are many more murders and home invasion because the criminals always have the guns and the non criminals are sitting ducks. |

In your stats, you did not include how many of the guns were legal. It also does not include the percentage of crimes committed by illegals. . If you have a plan for the illegal immigration problem, please reply with it. I disagree with your gun control comment, but we can chat about that another time. I'd like to keep focused on immigration.

That is exactly what I was hoping for, "reasonable". Not everyone will be pleased, but it will satisfy most of the people, both legal and illegals. It's a workable compromise. Some stay, even though they broke the law. Some go, but so what, they were undesirables. The border is secured. The crime rate drops, especially ID theft and gang violence. Drug activity is decreased and the country will save a fortune in the long term. The short term will need funding. |

Faireyze didn't read past "deportation". She's an idiot. It flat-out makes sense. Our infrastructure is bursting, California is bankrupt, and we are in a financial mess, and deportation would go a LONG way toward fixing the mess. Not only that, how many terrorists have slipped through? You know those "holding-camps" that the Government built, for emergency containment of "people"? I vote we use them!!!! |

Joe. If you look back in history, the illegals were rounded up several times. WWII was a huge event like that. They didn't secure the borders. This happened on our watch. We are the next generation now, so we must do something. It's on us. |

When I was 5, I lived in Chula Vista, CA, 1-or 2 blocks from a wetback station. I remember seeing them in the white panel trucks, looking out the bars of the back window. They threw dimes and US money out the back window at us kids. I think US money wasn't any good in Mexico. They rounded them up and shipped them back....and we should have kept up with the practice. |

Yes. they should have secured the border and kept up the practice of deporting illegals. I am not just talking about Mexico's immigrants. There are many illegals from everywhere. Some are very dangerous. It is up to us now to straighten this out. We can only blame ourselves for it getting to this point. I say we need some plan. If not the one I outlined than another that addresses all the issues. We can no longer afford to ignore this. We need to get our heads out of our butts and get it done. |

We need an honest to goodness American born president whose values mirrors our founding fathers...etc.!!! |

The politicians should love this plan. If they thought about it in political value terms, they would see the benefits. The illegals would praise them, at least most of them. The American people would have a better sense of security if the borders were protected and laws were enforced and the big one,.....they could keep their nannies, gardeners, valets and still get confirmed. |

Hi Joanne, finally got on. I really like this article on immigration. They can hire the unemployed to work on the fence too. It will be a LONG fence, but we have plenty of available workers now, WITHOUT hiring illegals. |
