You know I'm talkin Opening Ceremonies
So people who have followed my writings here know my love of sports, and you also had to know I'd throw you an opening ceremonies blog. If you didn't catch I feel bad for you because this is in my opinion the best I have ever witnessed.
People well argue with me that Beijing was better, and I will give to that under the circumstances of they had more man power to do what they did and it was a great show. Also I will say Beijing had one of the most well choreographed ceremonies I have ever witnessed.
From the get go tonight I knew this ceremony was going to be special. Danny Boyle who was in charge of the ceremonies but on a great show. He went thru the history of Great Britain. From the opening tune there was a clear idea and it was portrayed with every accuracy and undeniable clarity. 5 mins into the ceremony I texted my g/f Karen and said this is the best ceremony i have ever seen.
One of my favorite parts of the night was when the stadium transformed into the Industrial age and the smoke stack rose from the ground in a laid out London. Industrial London disappeared and 4 rings came from the outside of the stadium and one ring from the floor to forge the 5 rings, none of which would see the fury of Mt Doom.
The event of the games that was most viral was when the Queen came in with Mr. James Bond on a helicopter. Oh James, you always get the ladies. It was staged as the Queen parachuted out but lets be honest shes 80, shed have prolly broken a leg or hip.
I was a little sad with the parade of the countries and that is was so quick. Tho I completely understand it, the Queen is pretty old she needs to get back to her blinged out crib and take her beauty rest. I highly anticipated the entrance of Greece, Canada, Ireland, Qatar, the United States, and Great Britain, all of which have meaning to me.
I very much enjoyed the entrance of the "Independents". These were participants who for whatever reason didn't have a country due to extraordinary circumstances. This was fun for em to watch because they all came in like they really didn't serve a country and they had fun. they joked around and danced and did whatever they felt like doing. It was the epitome of what The Games are supposed to be. Some might say it was unprofessional for them to act as such. I say pull the stick out.
Easily the best moment of the night was the finale when Sir Paul McCartney performed Hey Jude. It was a slow start to the finale but quickly picked up. When he got into the chorus it was a real site to see and hear. Sometimes you experiance things that is complete euphoria is this was one of those moments. If I believed the legend I would have found me a cross roads demon and attended this ceremony.

This isn't form the ceremony, NBC isn't allowing videos of those :(
The best part was when he got off the mic and basically told those in attendance to just sing. Thousands of people singing Na na na, na-na na na Na-na na na, hey Jude. l was at home singing right along and I know millions of others did too. It's one of the few things I can say I wish I could turn back time and been in the stadium at that time.
This was a truly emotional night, not for just me or Great Britain, but the world. This world is filled with turmoil at every turn, but for a few hours the entire world, well over 1 billion people had there eyes in the same place. There was no war, there wasn't who's right and who's wrong, it was 204 countries and territories coming together for a common purpose, pride.
I would also liek to give a shout out to my g/f Karen who is absolutely amazing to me. She wanted to show me how much I meant to her and she ordered me a pizza from over a thousand miles away, which happened to arrive at the exact minute the Olympic ceremonies were kicking off, AND... with it was a can of Coke. I got me a great girl on my hands. Karen I'm so glad we have sports in common cause we have a lot to talk about the next couple weeks.
I have a feeling that I will not be getting much sleep over the next couple weeks. The Olympics are one of my favorite things int he world, too also couple that with the upcoming NFL season, NASCAR, WWE and off season trades in both NBA and the NHL I have alot of sports to keep up on.
I may write more Olympic posts if I feel so emotionally moved to do so. In the meantime I hope everyone can enjoy them like I will.
