What I'm finding out.
So I know I've not been around for a long time, my life is full of a lot of up and downs right now most of it of my own doing.
I recently moved to Miami, North Miami Beach to be specific. My life since being here has been quite different. There's always a certain amount of excitement when you move and its a bit scary both of which I experience almost daily here. A lot of you might remember many past posts about Yami, who I have now met since Ive been here and we have been sorta up and down which would account for some of the daily occurrences in my new life. Also things like weather and travel are a constant influence. But, for any of you who know who I really am knows the constant passion that runs thru my veins. Take a second and guess what it is. If you guess correct I would say your either very perceptive or we have had many talks outside of just blogs.
Miami and the surrounding area is rich in Sports. We have the Heat, the Marlins, the Panthers, and the Dolphins. Supplementary there's a university here that produces a lot of NFL superstars. I'm not done. Don't forget that Tampa is only a few hours up the state and I can watch the Tampa Lightning, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and I might even bother to read a news article about the Rays when they are in season. and just a short drive down the road is the Orlando magic.
So heres what happened today as your back story I often give you.
Yami and I are at differences about a couple things, something that will either blow over or it wont, and like any normal person it does get me a bit down, we aren't in a relationship so its not a big ugly break up disaster type mess. Jus tryin to paint a range for you. So I resorted to what I always do and turned on sports, something that honestly happens weather if fighting with someone or not. But today in particular I guess I started a little earlier than normal.
As further background, I really hate college sports, I don't really appreciate it I think the level of play is considerably less than professional and it generally does not interest me.
As I'm 95% of you know March is March Madness, and for the 5% of you who don't know thats just a big excuse for basketball tournaments nationally on the college level and state on the Highschool level. I normally couldn't care less about the tournaments, I take a min to see how Wisconsin and Marquette do seeing how both are Wisconsin colleges but pay it no mind after that.
I was able to watch both games today, and I indeed did cause I was a little depressed and I wasn't gonna watch the other crap sports that were playing. I am thrilled to report both Marquette and Wisconsin won tonight and have proceeded to the Sweet 16.
After the games were over I found myself looking at the brackets, and thought to myself I can't wait till tomorrow when all the games start again. I looked up from my laptop and again said to myself: Oh my god, I'm beginning to care about college basketball.
As I thought further I realized I have also gotten back into NASCAR this year, I have been following NFL free agency really close and my recent love for Hockey wasn't coincidental.

I began to think about all the sports I've fallen in love with over the years and how it all started.
Baseball: Tho I don't really have love for it any more initially it was because of my Dad, I remember we were watching the Brewers on TV, and he had a lot of Baseball cards, which actually not so coincidental like also got me started in collecting sports cards.
Basketball: The year was 2003, I was a Junior in HS. I was watching X-Play which is a video game show on Tech TV. They did a review of the NBA game and made a comment about hot the game predicted the Timberwolves to win the championship that year because the team added Latrell Spreewell and Sam Cassell. Since Sam Cassell was my favorite player when he was with the Bucks I was interested. When the season started I found the Wolves games on FSN and watched every Wolves game faithfully. Even tho that was how it started I give the credit to my sister who was a huge Alen Iverson fan and basketball brought her and I closer together.
Football: I can remember watching the Packers EVERY Sunday when I was little, not because I was interested but because my parents were. 1995 was really the year I can remember watching them and 1996 GB won the division title, which was a new feeling for Packer fans coming off of years of misery with Majkowski at QB.
Hockey: My inital interest was when I bought NHL 2004 for my Gamecube as to where I started a franchise with the Tamp Lightning, it was a fad that only lasted 2 years for me as Tampa won the Stanley Cup in 2004 and 2005. After they became bad I lost all interest. With the addition of my best friend Jessica who hales from Canada, came an opportunity to love Hockey again, and let me tell you I LOVE HOCKEY! Since I was not really a fan and I felt like Jess would play a big part in my life I made an effort to get back into the sport so we had something to share seeing how our similarities are few, it was an easy decision.
NASCAR: As I grew up i remember my dad watching races every once in a while on TV. Since we only had the basic few channels we did not get to see it every week. I fell in love with the sport one day in February. The 1996 Daytona 500. My family was watching it, my sister and I having no interest in it. It was nearing the end of the race and Dale Earnhardt was in second place and I remember my mom saying, "Come on don't let Earnhardt win." It was that moment I really looked at the TV and saw Dale Jarrett leading the race. So I said, "Come on Jarrett, don't let him pass you." With one lap to go we were all intently watching as Dale's father Ned Jarrett who was in the booth commenting brought his son home to Victory Lane. A moment that NASCAR calls it's 4th best moment in NASCAR history and the same moment that NASCAR became a part of mine.
Misc.: I also recall Tennis from one day my mom was watching the Australian Open on TV and Jennifer Capriatti wont her third Major that year. I remember falling in love with Golf because my cousin Josh and his dad Jeff loved golf, and to this day Josh, Jeff and my Aunt Brenda remain my favorite side of the family.
The people we love influence us incredibly. More so than we may ever know. But it's no coincidence that I love sports as much as I do when the people I love so much have a place in their lives for sports. Sports still continue to bring me closer to my family. I can recall over the last few days having conversations about football and NASCAR with my day, Football with my mom, football and basketball with my sister, and Hockey with Jessica.
Sports haz been woven into my DNA and fate has givin me the talent to write, I've made my decision where I want to live. That's Miami. I've made a decision on my career, Sports Journalism. The only question left to answer is when is the right time to pursue this. I believe fate will tell me that to. :)
Thanks for reading this, I know my blogs are unbearably long.

Good for you making a career decision J! just don't wait too long for fate...make it happen on your terms and time. |
When the time is right it will happen, forcing things isn't the way to go. To much potential negativity. |
