FInally... A Reggie Wayne jersey.

My favorite players jersey Reggie Wayne, WR for the Colts. Old pic :)

So I said I might do a Fantasy football column, and I honestly haven't decided I'm going to do it yet, but I thought it would be fun to put out Fantasy football draft tips. That and I'm kinda bored tonight. Seriously tho I've been so excited for the football season so i could play fantasy football with my family. I wont the championship last year so eager to win again his year.

First Id like to explain a little what Fantasy Football is. Basically what happens, is just liek in all sports you have a draft. You pick players you want on your team. Fantasy works the same way to where as you pick them they become ineligible to play for any other team. Then week to week you start a hand full of players consisting of the QB RB WR TE K and Defense. Leagues will have different numbers of starters for each position. In my league we start 1 QB 2 RBs 2 WRs 1TE 1 TE/WR flex 1 K 1 Defense. A flex position is a position where you can either start a TE or WR as obtaining to this case.

So here is my fantasy draft advice for this season. I've done a lot of mock drafts and so some of the information will be what the pattern has been.

Round one

To begin with I will say the top 4 players in the league are pretty clear this year.
1. Arian Foster RB
2. Ray Rice RB
3. LeSean McCoy RB
4. Aaron Rodgers QB
Draft slot 4 is a really hard position, It's a sound strategy to pick the top RBs first. But in the 4th slot the best player is QB Aaron Rodgers. Maurice Jones Drew (if he ever decides to show up for camp), Chris Johnson, and Ryan Matthews are also top RBs, but not worth a top 4 pick. The talent drops off after those positions. Assuming this is an 8 team league I will finish off found one as to How I would select them.
5.Ryan Matthews RB
6.Calvin Johnson WR
7.Tom Brady QB
8.Chris Johnson RB

With that being said I am going to list my top 5 by position. Again this is my top 5, and I know cases can be made for changes but this is what I'm going with.

Quarterbacks
1.Aaron Rodgers
2.Tom Brady
3.Drew Brees
4.Cam Newton
5.Matthew Stafford
Pretty Straight forward with QBs.

Runningbacks
1.Arian Foster
2.Ray Rice
3.LeSean McCoy
4.Ryan Matthews
5.Chris Johnson
Top RBs are so wide open this year, names who are worthy of top 10 picks also include Maurice Jones Drew, Trent Richardson, and if he proves healthy and can refrain from being arrested Adrian Peterson. Peterson has a lot of ?'s around him and has been going about 20-25th pick.

Wide Receivers
1.Calvin Johnson
2.Andre Johnson
3.Wes Welker
4.Greg Jennings
5.Larry Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald is projected to be a top 10 pick this year, from what I can tell he has no consistency and has only been a top receiver last year, there are to many doubts about him to pick in the 1st round. Other WRs with huge upside are Steve Smith (Car) and Victor Cruz.

Tight Ends
1.Rob Gronkowski
2.Antonio Gates
3.Tony Gonzalez
4.Jermichael Finley
5.Brandon Pettigrew
Gronkowski was easily the best TE in the league last year, a lot of people are takign him in the 2nd round which is way to early for a TE. Gates and Gonzo are old but can still produce. Finley has the dropsies. Other great TE picks are Jason Witten, and Jeremy Grahm. None of these picks should be before the 5th round except for Gronk who could be a 4th round.

Kickers
1.Sebastian Janikowski
2.Neil Rackers
3.Rob Bironas
4.Dan Bailey
5.Josh Hansen
Kickers shouldn't be drafted until late late rounds, there isn't much difference in Kickers to justify a 12th round pick.

Defense
1.San Francisco
2.Baltimore
3.Pittsburgh
4.Bears
5.Texans
The top 4 picks are the cream of the crop in defenses. If you want San Fran you will have to reach fro them in the 9th round and they are worth a 9th round pick if there isnt a legit player on the board to draft. 2, 3, and 4 will also be reached for in the 10-12th rounds. I would use one of those picks on a top defense. If you cant get these 5 the Jets have a sexy Defense and so does Miami. Miami will be a defense you will be able to pick up in the last round so don't reach for them.

James Starks

Sleepers
James Starks (above) RB will be named the sole starter for GB. GB used to do RB by tandem but it's already been declared as Starks position. He will be over looked but a great midround pick up.

Matt Schaub QB is a great Sleeper Pick, he will fall to mind rounds because there are a lot of great RBs and WRs on the board, if you miss out on Bradey, Rodgers, Newton, and Brees don't sweat it because Shaub will still be on the board. Eli and Peyton Manning along with Romo are all great picks to but they will be going aroundthe 5th round, so If you have a need at WR and you can grab a WR at 5, grab Shaub at 6.

Eric Decker WR had shown great upside last year when he played for the Broncos and had a mediocre QB with Tebow, now he has Peyton Manning running the show so Decker should thrive, he will be overshadowed by many WRs including the guy who lines up opposite field of him Demaryius Thomas WR. Decker will fall on the boards and will be a great 7th round pick up.

Jacob Tamme TE wont be high on a lot of draft boards, hes a solid 13th round TE. If you miss out on the elite TEs don't worry because Tamme will still be on the board. 2 years ago when he played in Indianapolis with P. Manning he had a sensational year. He was then plagued with injuries but this year he is again reunited with Manning in Denver. Tamme is in shape for a great year.

Benjarvus Green-Ellis RB has been removed from this list, the Bengals have said they will have a running back by comittee which does not play in his favor.

Stay away from
Kansas City RB's. KC has a Runnign Back by Committee and looks to carry 4 RBs this year with MCCluster carrying a WR/RB status. Jamal Charles will be the starter but all the RBs on the roster will get touches, be careful who you draft.

Washington Redskin RBs. Again the Redskins are a RB tandem, until they name a starter stay away from both of them.

Fred Jackson RB Expected to be in a time share at Buffalo, however new reports say the Bills might leave Jackson and Spiller going split back on every play. We know he will be on the field but it will depend if he lines up at HB or FB.

Michael Turner RB expected to be in a time share at Atlanta.

Oakland Raider WRs. Carson Palmer QB has yet to prove hes back to his old self. He has 2 very talented WRs but we don't know what he is capable of yet so there might be a heavy dose of RB Darren McFadden.

Jacksonville Jaguars. The Only player worth drafting from Jax is Maurice Jones Drew. Don't even look at their team unless you want to pick up Kicker Josh Scobey in the 16th round.

Last tips
There are 2 more players I want to talk about. They dont make anyones draft board but they are great closing round picks. Randy Moss WR is returning to the game with SF and he looks to be the starter there. a lot of leagues leave him undrafted. Chad Johnson , formerly known as Ochocinco (above) WR is playing at Miami and they dont have a lot of WRs there, he also goes undrafted and can be a last round pick, both great options. Johnson recently got married which was the reason for the name change, if you are leery about players who are in newer relationships think twice. I still think Johnson will be a great last round pick.

I know this column prolly wont get much use but it's at least fun for me to get it all written down. Please if you need drafting advice and further into the season if you need help with who to start please ask in the comment section and I will answer your question. When the season starts I will check this account up until game-time.

OMG you go through all this every football season? That's dedication! WoW. I have often wondered what Fantasy football was, now I know:)

It's a lot more fun on the inside looking out. It's soemthign I have been doind for 10 years so combined with my love for sports this is easy for me. Also sometimes when Karen and I get bored we will do a mock draft together so we cna sit here and tlak about our picks thru Skype. Her knowledge of the game exceeds mine so shes awesome to talk to.

I am glad you have found a friend, Justin:)  I am glad you did the column, sometimes you need to write {#basic-wink.gif}
