Foreign Aid vs Military Expenditure.

This is serious friends. I'm sorry but i believe it is important to understand what the homo erectus is doing to fellow members of the species.

This topic will disappoint you.

Last week, i wrote a blog on "Is There a Chance for Peace" and gave statistics taken from Wikipedia and others describing and quantifying the amount of money spent each year on military expenditure. Not surprisingly, not many people read it and fewer responded. Blogsters seem to be more intent on abusing each other, rather than educating themselves. Maybe this is the wrong forum for this type of blog.

In 2009, total world-wide expenditure on militarism reached US$1.531 TRILLION of which it was reported, 46.5% was spent by the USA. My blog also listed the top exporters and the top importers of military equipment. India, with the greatest poverty level, is the 10th biggest spender.

So this pricked my interest to find out how that expenditure compared with world-wide expenditure on foreign aid - here is the equation ----

How do we shape up - do we spend more money trying to kill each other than we do trying to help each other??

The answer is a resounding YES!!!!

Figures are difficult to find - it seems that more money is spent by private charity organisations than governments and quantifying all that is nigh impossible.

However, there are estimates which take into account government and private, official OECD figures and estimates for those countries that do not report to the OECD.

While an OECD resolution required 0.7% of national GDP to be allocated by ALL countries in 2009, actual aid reached only 0.31% with the US being the lowest of ALL members of the OECD. This 0.31% compared with world GDP% of military expenditure of 2.7%.

So here is the bottom line - We spend about US$132.7 BILLION on helping our fellow man.

Therefore friends, we spend about 15 times more on killing each other than we do in helping each other.

I have been saying for 20 years, if there is a God, he really screwed up badly when he made this species.

Cheers all

This is nothing new but there are always protests when it comes to helping people at home! You get shouts of 'socialism', 'communism', etc.  :O(

Absolutely right. Even here, there are regular bloggers who are being dragged screaming into the 21st century of social welfare.
