Knock Knock

A few months ago I wanted the salon manager position in my store.  I was told that because my store is a high volume store that I'd have to start some where slower.  I decided that I didn't want to do it, that if I couldn't stay where I was, with my clients then there was no point in leaving.  This was around November.  So here we are in mid Feb and my store manager told me that the district manager has a salon manager position open somewhere else.  Is it time to move on?  I love where I am, I love the people & I have a decent sized client base.  I had a lot of clients follow me from my last job across the street to my new one.  Which is amazing.  I know they won't follow me north.  So I will be starting all over again in a brand new place.  The up side is that they are desperate for groomers, and it sounds like a store I can really work with and prove myself to be an asset.  We have two employees going to "groomingschool" in May.  That means there will be less dogs to work on, which means less money.  With a manager's position it's 10% more per dog plus bonuses here and there.  The distance is about the same.  I am really considering taking the job.  This could be my moment.  I have taken such huge steps to improve my health and here is an opportunity to improve my status.  Of course I am scared, it's a big step.  Going somewhere new, leaving my precious clients behind that I love so much, and being in charge.  It's a big big decision.  My store manager came in to see me before she left stating that the store manager at the other place called her about me.  That's 2 calls in 1 day.  I am honored that I am taken in such high regard.  I told them I'd have to think about it.  I am going to take a ride over there tomorrow on my day off and check the place out.  I want to make sure it's in a good location, that it's safe, andthat I can potentially bring the business up to standards.  I also want to make sure it isn't a complete dump, and I want to ask the staff what they think the main issues are with their clients and why they aren't heavy hitters.  I have to give my boss an answer Thursday, today is Tuesday.  I am about 85% sure I am taking the job.  This could be my moment.  Opportunity is knocking and it might be time to open the door.

Investigate and if it looks good go! You might be surprised- some of your clients just might follow you!

How far away are you talking about? With gas going up driving distance has to be kept in mind--also access to doctor and hospital has to be factored in.

It is 1.5 miles closer to me then my current store and this highway miles instead of local.  Timing is an issue though.  I am so close to NYC that going north in the morning will be an issue.  So I have to figure out if going in before or after 9am is worth it.  Since I will be making the schedule it wont be an issue :-)
