3013 London Olympics 2012 - Is This The Best You Have?
Forgive me if my typing is a little bit disjointed this evening. I saw something on the early evening news about a guy from the USA called Mitt Romney - is that his real name? which has caused me to start laughing and I am finding it difficult to stop.
Anyway, he was supposedly coming here as some sort of an ambassador/tourist to visit the London Olympic Games which is due to kick off tomorrow evening.
And he put his foot in it, big time, several times.

Just click on the link to read and see what he said and did; like calling the leader of the opposition Mr Leader! Doh! This is England, not China.
He isn't doing an awful lot to endear himself. Fortunately we do have tens of thousands of decent intelligent Americans spending their money over here at the moment, and for that we say a big "Thank You, and hope you have a wonderful holiday".

Apple cart? No, not at all. I have no doubt there will be one or two foul ups in the next few weeks, but I agree with your sentiments that it is safe, and the it is a good show. |
" I no doubt would receive the same kind of derision if I were to visit the Misty Isles." I don;t think so. I do feel he is not proving to be the best ambassador for the US though. |
Damn. Our plan was to start exporting our idiots to England. Now Romney has gone and fouled that all up. Stupid Republican. |
The Salt Lake Olympics were the first Games held in this country since 911. Salt Lake has a population of 2 1/2 million people which is not exactly small. And yes I do realize that London has 8 million people. Romney transformed a failing, scandal-ridden situation and he didn't just "cope", he made the Olympics a total success in Salt Lake City. The games were also financially successful raising more money with fewer sponsors than any prior Olympic Games , which left SLOC with a surplus of $40 million at the conclusion of the games. The surplus was used to create the Utah Athletic Foundation, which maintains and operates many of the remaining Olympic venues. Haven't the British press, TV and the British people themselves have been very critical about how their own London Olympics have been run so far? That's what we have been hearing. In light of the terrorist history and murders during prior Olympic Games, the number one priority of the games is security, for athletes and the public...and there were no incidents in Salt Lake. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002_Winter_Olympics

Fangio--for the record--I have NEVER heard anyone refer to Mitt as "Governor" since he started to run for office as president LOL
|
Thanks for your concern Martin, but I don't think anyone is being deliberately rude, which is why I am being so typically British and retaining a stiff upper lip and being kind to lesser mortals. |
LOL no gift wrap, I dislike politics so very much:( We are just being overloaded on the mud slinging. |

Was going to speak my mind also but then it wouldn't be politically correct. An intelligent liberal always knows how to scream louder. |

All Olympic Games are meant to be free of political propaganda, yet the whole set-up remains politically poisoned - like Berlin in 1936 - just one example.
Just a misfortune of course, the one hour delay for an early event in London this time, with the raising of the North Korean flag instead of the South Korean. Faux pas - or something like that.
My own feeling is that the world is now in such a warlike state, that sport needs to return to being national, rather than global. Every four years the cost of security increases by tens of billions $$$$$$$$$ - yet perfect safety remains an impossibility.
I hope I have not upset the apple cart! All the very best for the 2012 Olympics!
PS: I have a London Olympic event featured on my blog. You may have missed out on that one.
