Sittin’ in The Kitchen…

Added: Tuesday, January 17th 2012 at 8:32am by dphilip

There’s no use bitching about it, I’m sittin in the kitchen because right now there’s no place else in the abode I can go to write. It’s really early, about 5:20am, which is typical for me to be up; what is also typical is that I would go to the dining/living room area where I set up my “desk” on the dining room table so I have some place to work. I can’t do that today because our daughter has a friend sleeping over and they’re presently crashed out in the living room. My 2nd place to work is The Dakota (our bedroom) but since the wifey is sound asleep in there, the only place left for me to work is either our daughter’s bedroom (where there is very little room and it smells like little girls) or in here, the “kitchen”, which is about the size of a walk in closet! Since this is close to the coffee pot and I don’t feel like I’m invading anyone else’s space/room, I’m working at the butcher block andhating every moment of it! I would do something else too, like exercise or some chores, but that too would disturb everyone else. This is why we need a larger place, do you see the expression on my face? I am not happy with this arrangement and the tight fit is really uncomfortable. Today, around noon, we go see that house on Palatine Road which I mentioned and we’re going to be talking to a few people about what our alternatives are in escaping this lease we’re under; after today we’ll have a clearer understanding of our options.

It’s hours later now, about 7:30 and our high school son just left for school but our daughter has yet another day off…a teacher’s institute day, what the hell is that? So yeah, she’s had a four day weekend but I for one, will be happy when she returns to school for the rest of the week; then I can have my wifey’s full attention! Presently I’m still struggling with working in this kitchen, but at least it’s clean(er)! Fairly soon, in about an hour, I will start making some louder noises and maybe get myself showered so I can start to wake everybody else up. I want to (re)claim my space at the dining room table/desk because I have some work to do and we’ve got this Mother Road Media dreams LLC meeting on Thursday which I need to get some stuff together for…so I will go back to my work (I’m writing a screenplay right now called “Multiplex”) and maybe check in with blog a little later…until then, see how small ourkitchen is?

It’s a while later again, now it’s a little past 10 in the morning and everyone, including my wifey, is awake. I have relocated to my favorite spot to work and I’m happy about that…we have to start getting ready to leave, we have that house to look at and I want to stay focused on my business stuff. I don’t even know why I wrote this blog today, it’s not as if I have much to say…I guess this is one of those “I’m just talking….” kind of posts. I suppose I will just let it go for now and come back to write something better another day. In the meanwhile, everybody have a wonderful Tuesday, as always, my friends, take care, be well and stay cool!

Wow, that is a tiny kitchen!   I see why you're wanting to get somewhere a little larger.  Hope you can figure out a way out of your lease so you can move.  Good luck with all that.  Hoping the house you're going to look at today fits your needs and you can work something out.

I'm up pretty early a lot of mornings, too.  In fact I woke up about 4am this morning, laid there and flipped and flopped til a little after 5, when I gave up and got up.  Hubby and I sleep in separate rooms, because I had to get off the waterbed several years ago because of my arthritis.  Besides, he snores and I have a sleep disorder and am up and down quite a bit in the night--we discovered we both sleep better in separate rooms.  My PC is in my room, and I turn it on whenever I get up.  Can't really do anything else, I have somebody sleeping in my living room, so I'm kinda stuck here.

The house was really nice and I think we're going to put in an application and take second look at it on Friday; in the meanwhile it seems the best route out of our current lease might be to simply walk in and tell them we wish to sub-let our unit.

I personally enjoy getting up early, I feel best in that time of the day; everything is nice and quiet, peaceful...

I don't get up that early by choice...lol  My brain wakes up and no matter how much my body argues, the brain usually wins!  If I haven't dozed back out within 45 minutes or so, there's no point in continuing to lay there.

I'm glad you liked the house...hope it all works out for you.

Hope you're having a great day!

LOL....now that i see the size of your kitchen....I understand!  You definitely need an office....or at least space!

Good luck house hunting!

Thanks...we did Thanksgiving in that kitchen this year...what a task that was!

We liked the house we saw ysterday and we're thinking of putting in an application on it this week...we'll see what happens next!

Yep, you deserve a bigger place.  Good luck in the move.

Thanks, we did see that house and I think we're going to try to make a move on ot it this week!

Call it a pressure release.  You sure deserve it.

Thanks, yes...I need to let off a little steam every now and then!

I sure hope the other house and lease agreement can go forward! It's a kitchen for gnomes:)  But not a working place;(  Good luck dp! Keeping my fingers crossed for u!

Thanks...yes, it's a small almost useless kichen space but the place we saw yesterday has room for a table and chairs...it's huge!

That's great news. I hope this one works for u:)

I had one smaller than that but I didn't have kids yet. It was so small that I got stick between the table and the stove at 7 months pregnant and had to wait for my husband to come home and rescue me. He had to get friends to lift the table upwards while he pulled me out. They thought it was really funny!

We moved shortly after that!

I couldn't imagine a smaller kitchen but the image of you being stuck in one is very funny!

Thanks for stopping by Nota!

Wow, you do have tiny rooms. No offense, but it makes me grateful for the space we have.

You are fortunate to have the space, be Grateful for it! We saw a wonderful house yesterday and I think we're going to take a 2nd look and put in an appplication on this house on Friday...it's larger, in a better location and it's a fricking house!

Even if I was bachlorette, I still wouldn't take what you got now. take the house. lol! We have been at out place for 12 years (in April), and if we moved, we would have to have nice size kitchen, plenty of counter space, cabinets, and tall ceilings...like we have now.

The rest of this apartment is small too, but not as small as this kitchen and we've been here 4 years so far, too long for us!

And the blessing about being stuck in the kitchen is that you can reach over to the fridge to get more food & you don't have to expend too much energy when you're ready to cook meals for the family. Good luck on your housing search. I know that you have wanted to make a change for a long time now.

You want more space but I'm desiring less space..less maintenance less headache but am grateful I'm not forced to live in my car like homeless in this area. We have several shelters for those in need but several churches are now making plans to open up churches for housing on a rotating type basis. (good idea if it materializes.)

There is a blessing to having everything close by, we try to use the kitchen as more of a "food prep" place than an actual room to use...but the house we saw yesterday has an eat-in kitchen (and full basement)!

My father did the down-sizing thing when he moved back from Philly to Chicago; he went from a 5 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom condo for very much the same reasons; less up-keep, less clutter...and he's alone so what did he need a 5 bedroom house for anymore?

We have a growing homeless problem, even here in the suburbs, too many people without safe haven. There are a couple of local shelters that do a decent job of assisting these poor souls, we've volunteered at one of them and often go to their fund raising events. Homelessness is one of my core fears, I lived in my car when I was in my mid 20's for about 6 months and it was scary, I can't imagine being a homeless family, how very sad.

DPhilip: let us know how the house hunting goes.

Re: homeless Several years ago I headed up a program via my church, an organization called Bridge of Home, and the "adoption" of a homeless family. The family was not able to fulfill the contract they had signed after about 10 months so had to be released from the program. The Bridge of Hope Org here has been re-evaluting the local office here in my town but has not launched it again due to obstacles. Bridge of Hope in other cities in Pa are doing very well. I knew a little about homelessness when I worked in the Mid-West in Social Services job but it's changed greatly since those days.

Think your kitchen is slightly larger than mine!! I have a sink, fold up table with Russell Hobbs oven on and a fridge/freezer next to that with microwave on top. That's it. Have to put a few bits on a shelf and the rest has to go into a cupboard in the hall way. But it's only me and I am not a great cook, so it does.

Wow, that IS a small kitchen! It's just difficult with a family to deal with such limited space...but this will change soon enough.

Your house looks like mine, so it makes me happy. I go into other people's homes and just think, "Where is all there STUFF???"  I certainly can't be the only home that has "stuff" everywhere...a pile here and there. There are't enough closets or room in the attack or garage for all the stuff we have, so it's just everywhere. I'm not a dirty housekeeper, but we do have a messy home. Looks like you guys have some stuff. Makes me feel better...LOL

That's very true, we have a lot of stuff and it's messy, not dirty mind you, just a pile of things here, a pile of things there...Glad you found our clutter comforting!
