Do you believe in life after death?

44 Responses Created by dphilip on April 16, 2010

  • Yes, in the kingdom of heaven.
  • Yes, we are reincarnated…
  • Maybe, I’m not sure…
  • No, when you’re dead, you’re dead!

I was wondering about this idea this morning as I lit a candle and said some prayers for my departed child…is there a life everafter? Do we come back to Earth when we’re dead? Is this it, a one shot deal and complete crap shoot? I’m curious, what are your views on the subject…is there life after life?

LIFE is eternal, I believe, our bodies shed, and WE continue/our consciousness continues.

There are several books and research available with reports from people who have had near death experiences, to people who receive messages from those who have "passed" to a level of energy around us that we can "tune into" and it's all different consciousness vibrating.

Would we even have the concept of eternity if there was no such thing? That's just the way I see it.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from begining to end.

d'P...yes.. there is LIFE after life [grinning]. Death is just a change in form. You may chose to be reincarnated right away or be with your loved ones and watch over them.

I say this not as a religious person..but as a clairvoyant. I am not as strong as what you see on TV, but I've had my share of 'talking' to the dead and seeing them enough to know what happens when we die.

yes d'P. it is not a mystery as everybody believes it is. When I wrote to you yesterday that your daughter was comforting you...it wasn't just a figure of speech or a phrase to make you feel good...or a statement borne of religious beliefs.

I ain't dying so that takes care of that!

Seriously, as I said yesterday regarding your daughter we stay alive as long as people remember us.

Think about how depressing that is. How long are people really gonna remember you? If you get lucky your great grandkids might know who you are, but after that your only going to be remembered as a name that someone digs up on ancestry.com. No one will actually remember who you were.

Sorry I know you had good intentions, but I didn't see the point in buttering up the truth.

Ah but did you read my first line?? That's known as humor! :O)

Also I suggest you read the comment I made on his blog yesterday regarding his daughter.

As I have no family I won't be remembered after my friends die--so what?

That would assume survival by popularity. Sounds wrong to me. Some people aren't known by many and as those few pass on then that person would theoretically die.

I believe we never die, life is eternal. The spirit and soul never die, it lives on one place or the other. 2 Corinthians 5-8 to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Our body dies. I hope I explained that right.

JMO, but I don't think we are either reinacarnated or we see another life after this one. But of course, I have never had that exprience, so I cannot say for certain. It does bring good conversation though.

I'm not going to reply to each person reciting their specific holy book or as Rica stated that she has had personal experiences that led her to what she believes.

I will say this much, it's a quote from Douglas Adams. "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful, without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

Those who have replied, they've expressed wishful thinking. The concept of "There has to be more!" or "I don't want this to end!". It's a form of childhood neurosis. There is much more fulfilment, and beauty to be seen if we accept the life we are living now. There is much more to be accomplished if we make use of our limited time on this earth, rather than think there is a better life waiting ahead of us after death.

"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful, without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

------>> yes. truly yes.

It's ironic; I almost find your anti-religious views religious in their voracity!!! Again, I think that you make some decent arguments from time to time, but if you are trying to convert people to your faith of non-religion, then you shouldn’t presume that those with faith have found it upon a ‘childhood neurosis’.

In a billion years, I don’t think that science will ever explain why we are here!

When I refer it to as childhood neurosis, I'm merely quoting Siegmund Freud. I'm not necessarily into the converting business. I have nothing to offer, I have no lies to tell and no magical stories to entice people to believe things I accept. I'm only here to criticise and objectively verify the claims of others, mainly because hardly anyone does it.

Regarding the question of "why we are here". It's....a weird question. You need to make the presupposed idea that there is a reason for your existence beyond your birth. I mean, I can explain how life began, I can elaborate on evolution if you'd like me to.

But, if you're assuming there is a reason for your existence beyond the naturalistic processes, then you may as well ask why we don't have vaginas attached to penises. Why we have such a poorly designed body which is susceptible to obtaining cancer naturally, and various diseases.

In conclusion, I think there is a difference, between accepting reality and wishful thinking. I feel it's wishful thinking to assume we have any reason for our existence beyond what we make of it.

-L

It is a weird question and I wasn’t speaking about me. I understand the Big Bang Theory, I understand the Theory of Evolution, and I am decently educated. My birth is an interesting question, as is the concept of consciousness. But, I was speaking more specifically about why all of this stuff is here. Where did it all start? How did all of this stuff come of nothingness? Science will never answer this.

As for the 'poorly designed body', as soon as science creates an engine as efficient, compact, and fuel versatile as the human body, I'll cede this point to you. I don't expect it to happen in our lifetimes, so let's hope for an afterlife to settle this score!

Who the hell said stuff came from nothingness o.O?

-L

Okay, or why has all of this stuff just always been here. Either alternative is equally ridiculous. Yet one of them is at least partially true.

In any case, I feel like we are hijacking dphilip's post!

Well, alright you're right. We are hijacking Dphillips post so I'll give you something to ponder about and if you want to continue please pm me.

Some questions such as what the last number abraham lincoln was thinking of before he got shot, can never be answered.

To then assume because there is something unknownable and therefore ridiculous notions of faries, gods amongst other things exist is fallacious. The fallacy is known as the "God of the gaps" fallacy.

What I'm saying is in conclusion. I can live myself content with not knowing. I can It's much more interesting, not knowing something than knowing it. What I can't live my life with, is believing in obvious lies and wishful thinking.

-L

It is hard to know, especially for those who aren't a strong believer in God. But for those who do, it is so reassuring to know that this isn't it- there is an eternal life waiting for us.

I think that when your body dies, you have to let go of earth to go to paradise

I don't believe so. When you're dead, that's pretty much it.
