Sacramento: December 2007

Many of our readers will have seen video clips this year in The Daily Explorer and judging by your feedback, they have been very popular. As Ray is such a big YouTube fan, we asked him if he would compile a special selection of clips for our last issue in 2007. He was very happy to do this and we present his 'Top Ten' Clips for Christmas below.

This is what Ray told me when he sent them to us. "Throughout the year, I have been searching and watching video clips on YouTube to find material that would enhance the marvellous work that Mozzie Byte, Nick Elandimer and the other journalists on the team have been doing. For those of you that may have already seen some of the clips in my selection, I hope you enjoy viewing them again and for those who have not, you are in for a treat! Take a break for a few minutes, put your feet up, watch the clips and evoke the wonderful spirit of Christmas".

So here are Ray's Top Ten favourites with a brief note about each. Enjoy!

1. "Wonderful World" Shadow Puppets

"I first saw this video clip in an email that someone sent to me and discovered that a lot of my friends had also seen it. I simply love the originality and the music is a classic, perfect for the Christmas holiday".

2. "Say It's Possible" Music Video

"Whilst I was travelling in New Zealand, I came across the clip below and it was a great discovery for two reasons. Firstly, because it is a great piece of music and secondly, the film was a collaboration between the artist (Terra Naomi) and her audience. She asked people from around the world to film themselves answering the question "What would you do/want if anything were possible?" in three words or less. And what you see in the video is the result".

3. Greenpeace TV Commercial

"A popular saying at Christmas is "Let there be Light" and this commercial exploits the phrase to the full in a rather humorous way!"

4. Cadbury's Chocolate Commercial

"Many of you will have seen this, as millions of people flocked to YouTube to see the full version when this commercial was released. It was a superb piece of marketing as it had everyone talking about it, and perhaps it will become one of the classic TV ads of all time!"

5. Bear falling from a tree

"A couple I met whilst travelling in New Zealand brought this news story to my attention and it is the first of two clips featuring animals. I'm sure it will make you chuckle and smile!"

6. The Lion and the Rescuer

"Who says animals don't have any feelings?" I discovered this clip recently and watched it with some of my friends in the USA. We could barely stop ourselves from shedding a tear as it was so remarkable".

7. The Free Hugs Campaign

"Christmas is all about the celebration of humanity and hopefully for most people, a time to experience how much we are loved by our nearest and dearest. Make sure you let people know how much they mean to you - it makes a massive difference".

8. The Thin Blue Line

"I really love the writing of Richard Curtis, particularly in TV shows like Black Adder and the Thin Blue Line which starred Rowan Atkinson. Stand by for innuendo and double entendre at it's very best!"

9. The Small Boy Leaving Home

"Having spent the last two years living a nomadic life, I really know how hard it can be to leave the comfort of one's familiar surroundings to explore what lies beyond in the big wide world. So, my heart really goes out to the boy in this marvellous clip".

10. It's a Wonderful Life

"The movie is a Christmas classic and if you are like me, you will probably have seen it many times. So here is a lovely little variation on a theme, submitted by someone who has taken a great piece of music and blended it with highlights from the movie. If you have never seen 'It's a Wonderful Life', treat yourself this Christmas and you will be very glad you did!"

Merry Christmas Everybody!
