ACORN gotcha man among four arrested for attempting to bug Mary Landrieu's office

Breaking news! A watergate type wire tapping by who? The same guy who tried to get ACORN. This is ooooooooh highly illegal.....I guess my question to you would be, if this had been the Libs doing it the Repubs would be screaming bloody murder right now, why aren't they screaming about these guys?

Alleging a plot to tamper with phones in Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu's office in the Hale Boggs Federal Building in downtown New Orleans, the FBI arrested four people Monday, including James O'Keefe, 25, a conservative filmmaker whose undercover videos at ACORN field offices severely damaged the advocacy group's credibility.

Also arrested were Joseph Basel, Stan Dai and Robert Flanagan, all 24. Flanagan is the son of William Flanagan, who is the acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Louisiana. All four men were charged with entering federal property under false pretenses with the intent of committing a felony.

An official close to the investigation said one of the four was arrested with a listening device in a car blocks from the senator's offices. He spoke on condition of anonymity because that information was not included in official arresting documents.

According to the FBI affidavit , Flanagan and Basel entered the federal building at 500 Poydras Street on Monday about 11 a.m., dressed as telephone company employees, wearing jeans, fluorescent green vests, tool belts and hard hats. When they arrived at Landrieu's 10th-floor office, O'Keefe was already in the office and had told a staffer he was waiting for someone to arrive.

When Flanagan and Basel entered the office, they told the staffer they were there to fix phone problems. At that time, the staffer, referred to only as Witness 1 in the affidavit, observed O'Keefe positioning his cell phone in his hand to videotape the operation. O'Keefe later admitted to agents that he recorded the event.

After being asked, the staffer gave Basel access to the main phone at the reception desk. The staffer told investigators that Basel manipulated the handset. He also tried to call the main office phone using his cell phone, and said the main line wasn't working. Flanagan did the same.

They then told the staffer they needed to perform repair work on the main phone system and asked where the telephone closet was located. The staffer showed the men to the main General Services Administration office on the 10th floor, and Flanagan and Basel went in. There, a GSA employee asked for the men's credentials. They said they left them in their vehicle.

The U.S. Marshal's Service apprehended all four men shortly thereafter.

Landrieu said: "This is a very unusual situation and somewhat unsettling for me and my staff. The individuals responsible have been charged with entering federal property under false pretenses for the purposes of committing a felony. I am as interested as everyone else about their motives and purpose, which I hope will become clear as the investigation moves forward."

That staffer doesn't sound too smart--the staffer saw all this and wasn't suspicious???

Oh, don't worry, Charlie the republicans will put a spin on it saying they are being framed for exposing ACORN originally!!  LOL

The staffers probably wouldn't know if the phone guys are supposed to be there or not I wouldn't think, but you would have thought they woulf certainly question the,. Plus they would have had the shirts with the phone company logo's I would think.

I'm sure they will spin the hell out of it, but so far (i know you didn't see the video) The Fox news guy seemed a little upset about the whole thing like it's a major "ooops" or something. Which it is, it's right up there with Watergate!!

I seen this on Rachel Tonight. Haha, I knew this guy had a history of race-baiting and such, but now this is going to be a problem for him. Where are the conservatives applauding this guy at?

I am not sure I would put this up with Watergate since I doubt Obama has these people working for him, like Watergate people did for Nixon... but I sure am interested in hearing more. Thanks. I have been off the internet most of the day and had not heard about this. I will be looking and keeping track of it. This is interesting to say the least!

well, your right about Obama not being in the loop on this, but it's a similar type of action on the arrested guys part. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out, looks like 10 years to me.....

Maybe he can be "blocked" and sniped afterwards by spineless hypocritical cowards. Ya think?

Sorry Charlie (HA!), Nota knows exactly what I am getting at....{#basic-wink.gif}

I understand also, I'm blocked by many and I'm sure I'm the topic of conversation with them. Most don't visit my site anymore. It's something they read in Becks book, but you know...I've been looking through it myself, and whats funny is, his definition of an Idiot. They fall right into that category! Ya think?! I'll be doing a post on it soon enough, like...today or tomorrow. It cracks me up, really. That they want no part of truth or to at least understand the other point of view. I think your photo above is perfect for that hen house! In fact there is a resemblance in features to a few of them....

I find the ones that block then snipe the most cowardly. I mean chicken {#censored.gif} city! And those that block someone after pissin and moaning that the world is "too PC" and it is destroying us, or those that block someone ironically from a post praising free speech. And God forbid someone be so hypocritical and have their behaviors so blatantly prove that their free speech ideals are as handy as an elevator fart to the "vertically challenged".

lol, I couldn't agree more. Free speech for some is more like it, the rest of us are supposed to shut up!!!

How is Fox 'devastated' by this news?  I saw them reporting the story, that's all.  It's what they do.  It's called 'news.'  The accused are not employees of Fox.

I don't know, but he did look a little perturbed by it all. I'm thinking that head lines comes from the fact that Fox news loves this kid and he just screwed up royally. Got me, it's the video that went with the story. Anyway, how do you feel about him doing this?

I feel that if he really wants to be an investigative journalist, he should pursue that vocation legally.  At this point he's only been charged, not convicted, so I presume him innocent until its proven otherwise in a court of law.

lol, I do too but it doesn't look so good that he was standing there video taping the whole thing. We'll see, it looks like he'll get aiding and abiding (you know what I mean) cause the other two guys actually did the work. Yes, he should go about doing it legally but for some the end justifies the means.

While I am against the alleged illegal behavior of these four, I understand Senator Landrieu allegedly had tampered with her own phone system so as to avoid angry calls about her role in the health care debacle.

I bet the four would-be wire tappers were looking into this matter.

Maybe Senator Landrieu has more in common with these vigilantes than she would care to admit.

We need lots of new political blood, on both sides of the aisle, since they are all a bunch of corrupt fat cats!

I couldn't agree more.
