Creating Effective Blog Posts

There are a million blogs fighting to catch a reader’s attention. Some concentrated on the site’s layout and other focused on using traffic-building programs. But in the end, a blog is simply judged by one criterion: post content. Here are some useful suggestions in coming up with readable and effective blog entries.

Add pictures if needed

Reading an all-text blog can be boring. You can spruce your entries by adding a photo related to your post. It is best to post one that you yourself shot (by camera) or made (by hand or computer). You can also use pictures from an image search engine, but make sure of its copyright first.
Add character

A good blog post is not monotonous and objective. It provides the readers an impression on the blogger’s personality and character. Write you blog like you are talking to your reader. On the other hand, do not force character to your post especially if it does not reflect to your own personality. Do not try to be funny if you seem to have a bland sense of humor.

Do not mind much about the keywords

You may have heard that keywords can make your blog more searchable, but in reality most blogs are found by their readers accidentally. You should just type on topics that you feel like writing. Do not write words for the sake of making it searchable, since it loses your post’s character. You never know, you might have typed searchable keywords without you noticing it.

Keep your posts positive

Do not write entries that promote hatred, prejudice, and discrimination.

Length does not matter

You may write a blog entry that is as short as 10 words or as long as 10 kilometers, as long as the content is worthy of reading.

Read other people’s blogs

Look for inspiration, but do not imitate their style. Reading blogs from other people gives you an idea how they post and why people read them.
Avoid multi-colored texts

You can only use another color for highlighting purposes. Other than that, too much color in your text can be tiring to read.

Avoid too much perspective

Writing a blog is different from writing a free-flowing novel. You should stay focused on your entry’s main topics. You can veer a little, but not too much. A bad example would be a blog entry about the writer’s love for shoes and how she used to be deprived of shoes when she was young and poor that became an outlet against discrimination for the marginalized that turned out to become a protest against a capitalist government.

Know when to stop your post

Even good things have an ending. Finish your post when you feel like you have nothing more to say about the topic. If you are planning to post further, just post a sequel the day (or an hour) after.
