Bangkok: March 2006

In the third installment of our special three part feature on Bangkok, our resident funny man Mustapha Laff announces the winners of our last caption competition and presents some more hilarious images from Thailand's bustling capital.

In case you missed Part 1 or Part 2 of our "Three Weeks in Bangkok" feature, you can read them again by clicking here for Part One, or here for Part Two.

First, here are the winning captions from our last competition in The Funny Thing Is (Part 2).

PHOTO A

The winning caption: "Ray just loved his 'Screaming at Flowers' workshop, which he found extremely therapeutic..." Submitted by Lozza, Ko Samui, Thailand

The runner up: "Despite the fact that Ray has no idea what he did wrong, he hopes that there are enough flowers to get Nikki back on side"  Submitted by Kevin Cubitt, London, England

PHOTO B

The winning caption: "Yes, just squat like this Nikki and it'll control your urge to pee - very useful for long bus journeys"  Submitted by Helen Chilvers, Henley, England

The runner up: "Nikki practices her signalling moves so she can become a Bangkok Traffic Policewoman"  Submitted by Nic & Regina Meredith, Sedona, Arizona

PHOTO C

The winning caption: "The holy water had run out, but it didn't stop the locals and tourists trying to get a game of apple bobbing going"  Submitted by Kevin Cubitt, London, England

The runner up: "Adult education is really taking off in Ko Phi Phi. The course entitled 'Hitting yourself over the head with a piece of fruit' is proving particularly popular"  Submitted by Polly Rubinstein, Rutland, England

PHOTO D

The winning caption: "OK everyone, all together now, Y.M.C.A, Y.M.C.A" Submitted by Nic & Regina Meredith, Sedona, Arizona

The runner up:  "When I get enlightened, I wanna hold up a building too!"  Submitted by Charlotte Furer-Reynolds, Steckborn, Switzerland

We would also like to acknowledge Saul Jaffe, Sue Ashley and David Cox, whowere recognised by our panel of judges for their superb efforts and creativity. Congratulations to all of our winners and special thanks to everyone who took part.

Now, here are the latest collection of unusual, bizarre and ridiculous images brought to you from Ray and Nikki's very own Bangkok photo albums:

Above: Nikki and Ray spotted this lady in a shop in Chinatown, and were enticed into entering the shop by her unusual style of Thai Karaoke singing.  They agreed to buy some plastic flowers on the condition that she stopped singing immediately!

Above: Nikki wonders if she might be able to distract these guards from their duty at the Grand Palace by asking them if they have seen Dr Who go past

Above: "Hey Bud - this new zoom lens is brilliant.  I can see another Burger King just over there and they have a special offer on. Let's go!"

Above: No caption required!  The figure on the right is a Thai representation of what Sir Winston Churchill looked like, at the museum near the Bridge on the River Kwai

Above: (Captured in front of a Buddha image inside one of Bangkok's temples) "Dear God, please help me and my family shake of this strange affliction that makes it impossible to remove our chopsticks from our hands after we have eaten"

Above: Nikki and Ray discover what happened to all of those unwanted, end of line BHS lampshades - they ended up as decorations on this backstreet Buddha shrine

Above: Giant Fanta bottles terrorising locals during the Temple festival

Above: Ray urgently requests that Nikki put her tongue back in her mouth so no one will discover that she is really an alien disguised in human form!

Above: "If I sit really still, maybe no one will notice that I have forgotten my costume"

Above: Ray suddenly becomes concerned after Nikki points out that he has taken the seat and been drinking the beer of the rather large, bear-like looking man in the background!

That's all for now.  Look out for future installments of "The Funny Thing Is.. " in The Daily Lama.  MOZZIE BYTE
