The Funny Thing Is....
Koh Tao: January 2006

Our resident funny man, Mustapha Laff, reports on the unusual and the ridiculous from the Gulf of Thailand!
Firstly, I think Ray and Nikki were delighted to discover that God is alive and well in Maenam, Koh Samui but quite surprised to learn that he has gone into the vehicle rental business (see below). Each vehicle comes with it's own blessing and there is a prayer book in the glove compartment of every Jeep! Anyone who gets killed on the road in one of their vehicles automatically gets a 5 star VIP pass into the best accommodation in heaven.

Road safety is something that is taken lightly in Thailand and is probably not helped that much by the sort of sign you see below!

And how about this for a "rock" formation (below). This is one of a pair of rocks in Koh Samui known as the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks - you can imagine what the other one looks like!

And finally, anyone visiting Thailand could not fail to notice that there are many hospitals on the island of Koh Samui offering a high standard of healthcare to people. So it is perhaps fitting that this joke is dedicated to all of the hospital workers on the island (loosely translated from the Thai original joke):
Near Death
A middle aged woman has a heart attack and is taken to the hospital. While on the operating table, she has a near death experience. During the experience, she sees God and asks if this is it. God says no and explains that she has another 30 years to live. Upon her recovery, she decides to just stay in the hospital and have a face lift, liposuction, breast augmentation, tummy tuck etc. She even has someone come in and change the colour of her hair. She figures that since she has got another 30 years, she might as well make the most of it. She walks out of the hospital after the last operation and is killed by an ambulance.
She arrives in front of God and complains: I thought you said I had another 30 years!! God replies, "Sorry, I didn't recognise you."
