Pokemon Red and Blue (the truth)

Okay, to start off, I have been a pokemon fan from birth. I always wanted the newest game and the strongest and best pokemon. When I was bumming around google the other day, I came across a few little bits of information that ruined my whole understanding of what pokemon was as a kid, and here it is.

The Story

...One day in Pallet Town, post war time, A child (age 10) wakes up, ready to pursue his dreams of travelling the world and catching pokemon to become the Champion of the elite four. After awaking, his mom tells him that Oak the pokemon professor is waiting for him. You then realize that you do not have a dad, it is implied later in the game by Lt. Surge that there was a war in Kanto, by his words, "electric pokemon saved my life during the war" (which your dad deid in). After arriving at the lab in which Oak resides. Red (the child at age ten) meets his rival/friend Gary (Blue). Later on in the game you learn that Gary is actually adopted and lost his parents (most likely in the war that happened before the game), and you just stole his grandpa's love by pursuing your dreams.

After going through the game you come to a point where you battle Gary on the SS Anne, Like always, he has his normal pokemon team including his trusty Raticate. Like always, you tirumph over your adopted opponent and send him running. Later on, you run into him again in Pokemon tower (the burial ground for dead pokemon). He seems off, a little distant. He then asks If you know what it's like to see one of your pokemon die (implying that in the last battle, you killed his Raticate and he is at pokemon tower to bury it.)

At the end of the game, Gary beats the champion of the Elite Four and becomes the new champion. Only to, once again, be defeated by you.

This Ruined my childhood memories and I hope it did yours too, if you were a pokemon fan.
