Bucket List Trip 2019 - Canada - Kamloops to Whistler

Day 12

Kamloops to Whistler

We can expect a day of dramatic scenery changes when we drive through the ranch lands and head for the coastal mountains. An optional Floatplane Sightseeing Tour over Garibaldi Park gives you an inspiring view of a natural preserve of volcanic peaks, alpine lakes and meadows. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Whistler. Continental breakfast included.

The drive from Kamloops to Whistler took almost 7 hours but we did do a few stops along the way.

The scenery was not quite as pretty as they were at the Banff National Park and around Canmore and Lake Louise.

Even the color of the waters in the lakes were not anywhere near as pretty.

Our first stop was at this look-out point above Kamloops lake near the community of Savona.

It was rather a steep climb up from where the coach was parked...

but the view was great, would have been nicer on a bright sunny day of course.

looks like people stopped here for picnics, lots of these benches and seats scattered around the top of the look-out.

billboards of information of the area...

abundant facilities for the tourists....

and I love the very artistic garbage disposal bins....

continuing on to the community of Savona...

where we stopped for some snacks and drinks from the food market

and some souvenir shopping....

check out this huge block of Jade...2,850 pounds of solid jade!!

back on the road, more scenery...

these hills dont look quite as pretty without the green vegetation...

and the river flowing between the hills has a murky brown color...

there were lots of these little waterfalls along the way....

farmlands with beautiful mountain backdrop...

(to be continued....)

I like the lake views best.

pity the color of the water is not so nice.

Looks like they did logging on the hill side so that is why it is this way. Whistler is a popular name. 3 places in the West here in the US and there. But still the pictures were nice. Bro. Doc

Thank you Bro Doc. {#basic-laugh.gif}

WOW all of those mountains, love the pics.

Thanks Sandra...{#basic-smile.gif}

When you are in Savona and Kamloops you are in the high desert, the beginning of the great American desert that stretches all the way to Arizona. It is stark country but has it's own uunique beauty I like it.

I didnt mind it, but I do prefer alpine type terrain.

So do I. As you travel south to north in BC the scenery keeps changing as you go through different climate zones. My favorite is right here where I live.

I would have liked to have seen Saskatchewan.

Just one gigantic, very flat wheat field. The wind blows the wheat one way and then it blow it the other.
